Compensation
At S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members, and we are committed to transparency in our pay practices. The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $103,400 - $136,952. Individual pay within this salary range is determined by several compensable factors, including performance, knowledge, job-related skills and experience, and relevant education or training. This role is also eligible for S&C's annual incentive plan (AIP), subject to eligibility criteria.

Are you passionate about Power System Solutions? S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Engineering Services team. As a Senior Application Engineer, you'll be crucial in ensuring continued innovation and supporting our diverse team.
The Power System Solutions (PSS) organization is an integral part of S&C Electric Company, dedicated to providing comprehensive service and support for S&C customers. The organization offers services and solutions that support S&C equipment, including field service, engineering, analytical services, and customer support. These specialized divisions work collaboratively to ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions for customer distribution, transmission and generation interconnection needs worldwide.
The Automation & Protection team manages the delivery of protection and control and automation projects from the pre-sale stage through post-commissioning customer support, involving solution development, design, programming, testing and implementation. The team also provides specialized tier 3 technical support through the customer support process and customer training.
The Senior Application Engineer is responsible for working with internal and external stakeholders to develop and execute configurations of S&C's smart grid automation systems on electrical distribution networks and associated communication technologies for utility and C&I customers. The Senior Application Engineer is also responsible for technical support and troubleshooting of customer issues and leading customer workshops.
Key Responsibilities:
• Leverage expertise in S&C's automation products to be effective in the responsibilities listed. Products include IntelliTeam Automatic Restoration Systems, IntelliRupter PulseClosers, 6800 Series Automatic Switch Controls and IntelliNode Interface Modules, as well as TripSaver II, EdgeRestore, FMS and IntelliCap Automatic Capacitor Controls.
• Test applications in a lab environment with other team members, contractors, consultants, customers etc.
• Develop training materials and exercises and conducting training sessions for customers and S&C team members.
• Assist customer support teams with customer support requests via telephone and email as well as on-site visits when needed.
• Engage with S&C value streams and product development teams to deliver feedback from our customers to improve offerings.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to peers on project work, customer troubleshooting and internal testing through formal reviews and informal discussions.
• Assist in the proposal development process by supplying detailed cost estimates and providing relevant technical insights to ensure a comprehensive and effective submission.
• Support the Field Service team with advanced commissioning activities and offer customers post-commissioning support over the phone or MS Teams to ensure equipment operates according to customer requirements.
• Apply knowledge of industry standards and communication protocols to ensure compliance with automation projects.
• Stay abreast with the latest technology advancements, new products, systems and features and apply knowledge to S&C projects to remain competitive in the market
• Continue development of Standard work Practices to aid in effective and consistent project execution, with a focus on simplifying design and increasing efficiency
• Recognize and adhere to S&C and industry safety practices and champion safe working practices
• Understand and comply with all applicable company policies and rules
What you'll Need To Succeed:
Job Requirements (To select this job at a minimum you must have the following):
• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field and a minimum of 8 years of experience with electric distribution systems (Master's Degree or Licensed PE preferred)
• Familiarity with utility protection systems and reliability philosophies as it pertains to distribution feeders.
• Familiar with commercial/industrial best practices for distribution applications.
• Experience designing and deploying distribution automation systems.
• Knowledge of communication protocols/standards, such as DNP 3.0 and IEC 61850
• Knowledge of industry standards, including IEEE, IEC and NFPA
• Proficient computer skills, including experience using Oracle and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
• Familiar with site-based safety protocols and experience interacting with de-energized medium-voltage switchgear.
• Interpersonal skills to establish meaningful relationships in person and in a remote environment.
• Proficient communication skills (written, verbal, listening and presentation), able to liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
• Able to successfully present to customers in a small, face-to-face environment
• Practical organizational, planning and project management skills, coordinating internal and external resources and juggling a heavy volume of diverse projects and assignments.
• The ability to travel as required (domestically and internationally) up to 30%
Preferred:
• Familiar with CRM systems (Salesforce desirable) to maintain and leverage data for reporting purposes
• Working knowledge of SharePoint and Power BI for data analysis and report preparation.
• Knowledge of S&C automation products and services
Major Physical Demands:
Sitting-Frequently required to remain in a stationary position and perform desk-based tasks for 8 hours at a time approximately [5] days per week
Walking-Occasionally required to walk moderate distances multiple times each day while performing a FAT or on a job site
Manual Dexterity-Frequently required to use hand-eye coordination to control both hands and arms for a full range of motion to operate equipment/machinery/power tools/office productivity equipment
Observation / Eyesight-Frequently required to observe details at close range, including depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to differentiate between colors
Communication-Continuously required to talk and hear, in person and by phone/conference calls
Travel-Occasionally required to travel (up to 20%) and work extended hours when necessary. Required to travel overnight and infrequently, on weekends. Infrequently required to travel internationally.
