- The purpose of this position is to design, research, plan, coordinate, implement, and support the enterprise data and voice networking and network architecture. Plan technical strategy for the secure growth and change of our enterprise network including capacity, availability, continuity and disaster recovery planning, testing, and documentation. - This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
Examples of Duties: - The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary. - Develops requirements and proposed solutions for new network designs and architecture changes. - Supports: network management, designs monitoring and alerting, problem mitigation, and technical guidance for teams for maintenance and network troubleshooting. - Documents designs specifications, configuration instructions, and other network related information. - Monitors and provides guidance for network engineers, project members, and other teams. - Establishes and maintains network hardware standards, including inside and outside plant cabling. - Conducts peer reviews for Network Changes. - Establishes network design for new locations and conducts moves and expansions of Metro Network. - Maintains, supports, and troubleshoots data and voice networking and network architecture. - Designs, researches, evaluates, and presents solutions, pricing, and total cost of ownership. - Keeps current with technical trends and emerging technology, and keeps up to date technically by applying new knowledge to job functions. - Problem solves, analyzes information, and evaluates results to choose the best solutions and solve complex problems. - Consults with, and provides guidance or technical advice to management or other groups on technology, process, and policy. - Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Requirements: - Associates Degree in Computer Science, Engineering Technology or related discipline. - Eight (8) years of experience in a Network Engineer Role or comparable job function or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS - Must submit to fingerprinting for criminal history check. - Must complete the annual security awareness training. - Must possess and maintain a valid state drivers license with an acceptable driving history.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS - Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. - Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
