What You’ll Be Doing:
As the Assistant Chief Engineer, you will be the right hand to the Chief Engineer, stepping in during absences and supporting all facets of resort maintenance and engineering operations. You’ll also serve as the Mechanical Leader, directly managing union-represented maintenance staff and overseeing technical operations that keep the property running smoothly.
This is a hybrid leadership + technical role, ideal for someone who can balance management responsibilities with hands-on mechanical work.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer and providing backup leadership as needed.
- Managing daily workflow of union engineering staff, including performance counseling and attendance oversight.
- Coordinating employee schedules and directing the flow of maintenance and engineering projects.
- Overseeing key mechanical systems including electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and other infrastructure critical to resort functionality.
- Performing hands-on troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance throughout the property.
- Supporting all resort systems (HVAC, plumbing, elevators, FF&E, etc.).
- Conducting inspections and ensuring compliance with OSHA, ADA, and safety standards.
- Supervising vendor and contractor work; assisting with inventory control and preventive maintenance scheduling.
- Responding to guest service requests and emergency calls as part of an on-call rotation.
What We’re Looking For:
We are seeking a highly motivated, mechanically skilled, and team-oriented leader who thrives in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
Required Experience:
- 1–3 years of maintenance and mechanical management experience in a hospitality or multi-unit setting.
- Experience supervising or managing union employees preferred.
- Strong ability to prioritize, lead a team, and solve problems under pressure.
Education & Certifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- HVAC Diploma required; Universal HVAC Certification required.
- OSHA 10 Certification required.
Other Qualifications:
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently and make data-driven decisions.
- Must be physically capable of performing manual maintenance tasks and responding quickly to emergencies.
