Howmet Aerospace in Hampton, VA is seeking a dynamic and results-driven Quality Engineer to join our team. This role is instrumental in championing quality initiatives, leading process improvement efforts and ensuring that our products meet the highest standards of customer and internal specifications.

As a Quality Engineer, you will serve as a change agent across the organization, working collaboratively with cross-functional teams to identify and implement sustainable improvements that elevate product quality, increase efficiency and support our mission of excellence in engineered solutions.

What will you do in this role?

• Maintain compliance of products in manufacturing to specific customer purchase orders, blueprints and specifications while communicating with customers and suppliers.

• Provide technical support to our Engineering, Manufacturing and Sales teams as the customer advocate.

• Develop, maintain and implement quality systems procedures and work instructions in compliance to customer and regulatory requirements.

• Review purchase orders and specification reviews, focusing on negotiation of customer requirements, advanced product quality planning and translation of requirements to the operator level.

• Focus on process improvement, review, disposition and elimination of material review, concessions and corrective or preventive actions and escapes.

• Responsible for coordinating suppliers and verifying quality standards in accordance with industry and customer requirements, including commodities and outplant operations.

• Assist in the development and implementation of supplier management programs while insuring supplier quality.

What does it take to be successful in this role?

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a minimum of 3 years quality/engineering experience

• Preferred experience with ISO9000 or AS9100 and a working knowledge of PFMEA

• Certified AS9100 Auditor

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an emphasis on writing reports, business correspondence and the ability to create project plans

• Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from the customer and/or management and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

• Knowledge and experience with quality tools such as CAPA, six sigma, lean manufacturing, PPAP, FMEA, problem solving techniques and root cause analysis
