Description: Establish and improve production and material flow systems by studying manufacturing process layout, process flow, and material flow. Specific responsibilities include manufacturing cell design, assembly method development, labor standards maintenance, and process documentation. Develop and oversee safety, quality, inventory, and production record systems. Also responsible for capacity planning, resource utilization and efficiency metrics. Participate in continuous product and process improvement activities. Entry-level position relying on instructions and pre-established guidelines under direct supervision to perform functions of the job. Requirements: Position Details: · Develop manufacturing methods, material flow methods, labor utilization standards, and cost analysis to promote efficient staff and facility utilization. · Review production schedules, engineering specifications, orders, and related information to obtain knowledge of manufacturing methods, procedures, and activities. · Perform engineering analysis and feasibility investigations for new or improved product or component design concepts. · Utilize 3D CAD tools (Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD preferred) to develop and communicate assembly fixture concepts and 2D floor layouts. · Design layout of equipment, materials, and workspace for maximum efficiency. · Recommend design approaches considering customer specifications, product or component performance requirements, and manufacturing and assembly processes. · Support the development of qualification test plans and procedures to assure that the performance and reliability of assembled products meet objectives. · Provide direction to the Model Shop for the fabrication and assembly of prototypes and test set-ups. Assist with product introduction training. · Provide estimates of resources and time required to meet objectives. · Provide technical and other progress reports as required. · Analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine standards and establish quality and reliability objectives of the finished product. Minitab experience preferred. · Apply statistical methods and perform mathematical calculations to determine manufacturing processes, staff requirements, and production standards. · Evaluate precision and accuracy of production and testing equipment and engineering drawings to formulate corrective action plan. · Coordinate quality control objectives and activities to resolve production problems, maximize product reliability, and minimize cost. · Recommend methods for improving utilization of personnel, material, and utilities. · Estimate production cost and effect of product design changes for management review, action, and control. · Selection, justification, purchase, validation, installation, and training of new capital equipment required for new or improved manufacturing processes. · Support other Follett departments with technical documentation, problem solving and troubleshooting as required. · Know and follow procedures and policies relevant to job functions and Follett. · Perform other duties as apparent or assigned.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or related field.
Experience: · Experience of 0-3 years in an industrial or manufacturing environment. · Exposure to lean manufacturing, 5S and kaizen principles is beneficial. · Strong analytical, organizational, planning and computer skills. · Proficiency using Microsoft Office products. · Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Other: · Travel requirements: Moderate travel as required in performance of job duties; to include travel between Follett business locations; to attend meetings/training outside the company as requested. · Physical requirements: Occasional lifting of no more than 25 pounds.
