The Planet Group is seeking an Engineer I role is an entry-level position requiring 0–5 years of related experience and a bachelor’s degree in environmental, civil, or chemical engineering from an accredited program. An advanced degree is preferred.

This position supports the hydro reservoir management team in implementing water control plans

Responsibilities include operational forecasting, flood control, and drought management to ensure safe and efficient water resource operations.

Reservoir operations rely on a combination of advanced software systems and data sources, including hydrologic instrumentation, weather forecasts, and historical operational data. The team also maintains a remote network of real-time monitoring equipment such as rainfall, stage, and temperature sensors through coordination with field personnel and contractors.

Additionally, the role involves supporting watershed and river system modeling using specialized analysis software, as well as working with internal tools such as the Hydro Optimization Management System (HOMS).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support water resource management activities, including hydro operations forecasting, flood control, and drought mitigation
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling
  • Assist with watershed and river system modeling
  • Support development, configuration, and maintenance of computer-based models and systems

Work Location & Schedule:

  • Based in Birmingham, Alabama
  • Hybrid work environment (combination of in-office and remote work)
  • Participation in a rotating schedule to support real-time operations, including evenings and weekends
