Water Resources Engineer - Mid Level (Hybrid)

Barr is seeking a water resources engineer to join our Minneapolis team. In this hybrid role, you will support the Water Resources group, working on projects with a diverse team of engineers and scientists, completing water resources/civil engineering and related technical assignments. Assignments may include hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, GIS, and CADD work.
A successful person in this role will have strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. They must possess a flexible working style and be willing to occasionally modify their schedule to meet deadlines and/or client needs.
Your impact - key responsibilities
- Hydraulic & hydrologic analysis: Hydrologic analysis related to stormwater planning and flood control, hydraulic analysis and design related to storm sewer infrastructure, rivers, streams, conveyances, dams, and other hydraulic structures.
- Reporting: Assisting with the preparation of technical reports, plans, and specifications, and working with clients, permitting agencies, and public officials.
- Project & task management: Assist with planning, coordinating, and executing projects. Help ensure project milestones are met and provide regular updates to project managers and clients.
About the opportunity
- Compensation: Anticipated range of $85,000-130,000. Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. This position is classified as exempt (salaried) under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
- Hybrid: A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Minneapolis, Minnesota, office.
- Work environment: Ability to work in an office environment. Candidates must be able to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
About you - required core competencies
- Education: Bachelor's degree in civil/environmental engineering with emphasis on water resources.
- Experience: 5+ years of water resources engineering experience with a focus on hydrology, hydraulics, or water quality.
- Experience leading tasks or projects.
- Experience and knowledge of hydrologic modeling and 1D and 2D hydraulic modeling software.
- Licenses/certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Driver's license: Possession of a current, valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.
Helpful additional experience (not required)
- Master's degree or PhD in civil or environmental engineering with a focus on hydrology and/or hydraulics.
- Experience in business development and client management.
- Experience with water quality modelling and analysis.
- Working knowledge of GIS and CADD software.
- Experience with site development design, plans, and/or specifications.
- Construction observation, fieldwork, and surveying experience.
