Utilities Engineer - Pharma Manufacturing

We are seeking an experienced Utilities Engineer to support the design, operation, and maintenance of critical utility systems at a leading biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility. This role involves managing a wide range of clean and plant utilities including purified water, clean steam, HVAC, boilers, electrical distribution, fire protection, and ammonia refrigeration systems. The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical background, cGMP knowledge, and cross-functional collaboration skills to ensure the reliable and compliant operation of all site utilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide engineering support for utilities including WFI, RO/DI, clean steam, compressed air, chilled water, HVAC, ammonia refrigeration, process gases, and wastewater treatment systems.
Ensure operational reliability and regulatory compliance of all systems; support root cause investigations, change controls, CAPAs, and deviations.
Lead or support troubleshooting efforts for utility-related equipment; develop and optimize preventative maintenance programs in coordination with the reliability engineering team.
Maintain and update technical documents, system drawings, SOPs, and user requirement specifications (URS).
Support cross-functional projects and capital improvement efforts; participate in shutdowns, tie-ins, and startup activities.
Oversee and support fire protection and alarm systems, solvent gas detection, and electrical control systems; ensure adherence to NFPA, OSHA, and site safety standards.
Assist with electrical system support, including short circuit and load studies, coordination analysis, and reviewing electrical single-line diagrams and equipment specs.
Monitor performance metrics (KPIs) and drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase reliability and reduce downtime.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related Engineering field.
Minimum 5 years of experience (or 3 years with M.S.) in utility or facility engineering, preferably in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
Working knowledge of electrical distribution (138kV/15kV/480V), fire protection systems, building codes, and CMMS.
Experience with cGMP, FDA-regulated environments, and engineering documentation.
Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders and contractors.
