Assists the County Traffic Engineer by providing technical and managerial oversite to the County's administrative and operational traffic engineering program. This is a professional position, working independently under the general direction of the County Traffic Engineer.
Essential Job Duties
- Assists the County Traffic Engineer
- Plans, directs, supervises and evaluates the work of personnel in Traffic Engineering
- Reviews Traffic Impact Studies and Traffic Methodologies
- Develops improvements by analyzing traffic data and reports
- Coordinates the design of traffic signals and roadway signing and pavement markings
- Coordinates the installation, rehabilitation and modification of traffic signals and roadway lighting
- Coordinates with Traffic Operations on the operation, timing and maintenance of traffic signals
- Participates in on call supervisor program
- Respond to emergency events and after natural disasters
Typical Requirements
Education/Experience:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent from an accredited college or university plus two (2) or more years of experience in traffic engineering related work.
A master's degree in civil engineering (Transportation Program) or Transportation Engineering may be substituted for one (1) year of required work experience.
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations:
- Current registration as an Engineering Intern in the state of Florida is desired
- Must possess a valid Class E Florida Driver's License
- Must possess or obtain within six (6) months of hire, an approved FDOT Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) Intermediate Certification.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Knowledge of traffic engineering and current practices.
Knowledge of traffic data collection, principles, and designs.
Knowledge and use of spreadsheets, word processing and database software.
Proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
Skilled and proficient in technical writing.
Ability to update and query traffic division assets in ArcMap or ArcPro software.
Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and drawings.
Ability to prepare engineering plans for the modification or rehabilitation of traffic signals.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other engineers, design professionals, outside agencies and the public.
Ability to prepare traffic signal timing plans with Synchro Software.
Ability to plan schedule and supervise the work of others.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Good problem-solving skills.
Supplemental Information
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Work is performed inside an office environment. Periodic site visits are required, which will involve working outdoors with exposure to heat, dust and inclement weather conditions.
