The Radio Systems Engineer leads, develops, designs, evaluates, and/or modifies systems consistent with customer and regulatory requirements. The engineer will develop system architecture and ensure the integrity of the architecture/design. The System Engineers II also handles the software, hardware, and RF (Radio Frequency) configuration to assure systems functionality works given the various customer configurations.
Responsibilities:
Provide technical expertise on the cities Radio Ecosystem. Forward thinking and connected with modern technologies.
Provide engineering design and oversight to assure the security, integrity, and operations of the cities radio system and components stay current.
Work closely with the project managers and is responsible for the technical aspects of the project from award until system acceptance.
Integrate and design systems to support public safety and public service elements include coverage analysis, AC/DC load studies, portable and mobile radio, data systems, data applications, microwave, back-haul technologies, dispatch centers, and logging.
Conduct system Details Design Review (DDR) work with vendors for shipping acceptance.
Work with the system technologists for field acceptance testing (FATP), and coverage acceptance testing (CATP).
Approve permits for RF Request and construction for the City of Virginia Beach
Maintain documentation of systems that is accessible and clearly legible for staff to work.
Management of staff to include contractors
Evaluate modern technologies and make recommendations to support the cities mission and goals.
Develop, design, evaluate, and/or modify systems consistent with customer and regulatory requirements.
Develop system architecture and ensure the integrity of the architecture/design.
Systems Engineers handle the software and hardware configuration to make sure everything works given the various customer configurations.
This position offers a remote/hybrid work schedule arrangement within the Virginia and North Carolina surrounding areas. Minimum Requirements:
MINIMUMS: Requires a Bachelors Degree in an Information Technology related field plus four (4) years of professional IT experience; OR any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or professional progressive IT experience equivalent to eight (8) years in fields utilizing the knowledge, skills and abilities in technology systems, systems functions and systems capabilities; and associated with such positions as Systems Engineer, Network Engineer, Database Administrator or Programmer Analyst. May be required to have a current and valid drivers license. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required to meet operational needs. Position may require one or more Expert Level Industry Certifications specific to the work to be performed and maintain currency of those, or successor, certifications; such required certifications will be listed in the requisition that announces the vacancy.

-Experience with ASTRO 25 Digital system core infrastructure
-Experience with Motorola Unified Event Manager
-Experience with NICE Recording Systems

-Experience with Motorola Radio Management
-Experience with microwave backhauls
-Results driven, self-motivated, people-oriented technical professional.
-Excellent communications skills and the ability to present complex topics to non-technical audiences
-Must be able to work under pressure and independently, to meet project deadlines for delivering quality solutions on time
-Experience working with customers is desirable
-Experience/ Knowledge in radio systems, radio propagation, RF, wireless, broadband, microwave, and/or networking is desirable.
-Experience/ Knowledge of communications networks (MPLS, Ethernet, TCP/IP) is desirable
-Certifications through CCNA/CompTIA is desirable
