Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Systems Engineer/Architect to support the design and implementation of advanced solutions within the Global Management System (GMS) Innovations portfolio. This role involves leading functional and technical system design to enable secure, scalable, and data-driven capabilities in a cloud-native, AI-ready infrastructure.
This is a hybrid role requiring periodic on-site presence at Fort Meade, MD or Scott AFB, IL - candidates must reside within driving distance of either location.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead technical architecture design for solutions across the GMS Innovation portfolios. Develop and manage system requirements for customer-facing, cloud-based capabilities. Derive functional, technical, performance, security, and availability requirements. Act as a liaison between stakeholders, guiding both technical teams and non-technical partners. Oversee implementation and testing phases, ensuring successful deployment. Design and document architecture artifacts such as IDDs, ICDs, RDTMs, SDPs, and system roadmaps. Collaborate with diverse technical teams: Software, Cloud, Data, DevOps, Network, and IA Engineers. Support Agile development environments and apply system engineering principles. Participate in technology evaluations and selection; build solution prototypes. Author test plans, acceptance strategies, and contribute to project planning and estimation. Interface with stakeholders to resolve issues, track dependencies, and mitigate risks. Requirements
Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree (STEM preferred) with 8+ years of experience (or 6+ years with a Master's). Experience with cloud-based, data-driven architecture in DoD environments. Strong background in systems engineering documentation and requirements traceability. Skilled in Linux OS, APIs (REST), and process mapping. Familiarity with project/configuration tools: JIRA, Xray, Confluence, Git. Strong communication and technical documentation skills. Ability to travel as needed. Preferred Qualifications: AWS or other cloud certifications; experience with AWS GovCloud. Background in AI/ML capabilities, large-scale data applications (Kafka, Spark, NiFi, Elastic). Experience with Agile methodologies, Kubernetes, CI/CD, DevSecOps. Familiarity with IBM technologies (NetCool, WatsonX), STIG compliance, and ITIL foundations. Experience in software deployment within DISA/DoD environments. Experience managing geographically dispersed teams.
