Systems Engineer Consultant

Paradigm is seeking a Systems Engineer Consultant for a short-term, onsite engagement to analyze, troubleshoot, and migrate a critical Fill Services application currently running on Windows XP. This system interfaces with PLCs and handles barcode scanning and fill control logic within a manufacturing environment. The goal is to modernize the platform by migrating it to Windows 11, ensuring continued performance and compatibility.
Type: 4 - 6 weeks contract Location: Portland, OR | Onsite Benefits: Paradigm offers medical, dental, vision, life, 401K, PTO, and sick days. As a Systems Engineer Consultant you will:
Review and understand the legacy Fill Services application and its integration with PLCs
Troubleshoot system issues and identify causes for malfunction
Determine feasibility and steps required to migrate the solution to Windows 11
Assess and recommend hardware/software upgrades as needed
Understand and work with KepServer, GenBroker, and SQL Server
Deliver clear technical documentation and a scoped project plan
Collaborate onsite with IT and operations staff for access and alignment
Requirements Our skills and experience wish list includes:
Strong experience with Windows systems, including migration from legacy versions
Proficiency in either C++ or C# (ability to read and reverse engineer code is essential)
Knowledge of SQL Server (queries, performance, integration)
Familiarity with PLC systems, Ladder Logic, and industrial automation protocols
Hands-on experience with KepServer and GenBroker (or similar middleware tools)
Ability to work with minimal documentation and translate observed behavior into functional understanding
Prior experience in a manufacturing or industrial automation environment is strongly
