System Security Engineer (SSE)

System Security Engineer (SSE) will provide technical support to formally register Department of Defense (DoD) acquisition programs with their applicable cybersecurity program(s). SSE will assist in conducting trade-off analyses and will integrate contributions from system security engineering disciplines such as anti-tamper, cybersecurity, exportability features, hardware assurance, software assurance, supply chain risk management, and security specialties (personnel security, industrial security, physical security, etc.). Essential Job Functions: Responsible for ensuring the development and delivery of cybersecurity and program protection capability for DoD acquisition programs through an approach based on cost, schedule, performance, and risk. Lead evaluation and balancing of security contributions to produce a coherent security capability across the technology system and the DoD acquisition program, integrating all aspects of system security. Assist in conducting trade-off analyses, integrating contributions from various system security engineering disciplines. Focus on cyber survivability to assess the system's ability to perform its mission and functions despite cyber-attacks, by anticipated adversaries, in a cyber-contested environment. The outcome of the SSEs efforts will be a comprehensive program and system protection strategy within the constraints of cost, schedule, and performance, while maintaining an acceptable level of risk. Specific tasks include:
Providing program protection assessments of requirements documents. Identifying critical program information (CPI) and inherited designated science and technology information. Determining threats to CPI. Identifying personnel for program protection roles. Identifying vulnerabilities to CPI. Performing risk analysis. Recommending security controls for acquisition programs. Supporting registration of acquisition programs with cybersecurity programs. Documenting program protection planning in systems engineering plan (SEP), PPP, and system security plan (SSP). Less than 5% travel anticipated.
Required Skills: U.S. Citizenship due to the sensitivity of customer requirements. Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance. Bachelor's Degree in engineering or cybersecurity, with at least 12 years experience, including 5 years focused on cybersecurity. Understanding of systems engineering processes. Self-starter with the ability to work independently. Ability to work within a team. High-quality support and customer service skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills and negotiation abilities. Customer service oriented. Position is on-site in Warren, Michigan, with full-time on-site duties.
Desired Skills: CISSP-ISSEP certification. Bachelor's Degree in computer science, computer engineering, or electrical engineering. 20+ years in cybersecurity. Experience mitigating cyber and program risks via supply chain management. Familiarity with AR70-77 regarding 'Technology and Program Protection.' Experience in systems engineering.
