: Substation Protection & Control Engineer II Reports To: Principal Engineer Classification: Full-time, Exempt Location: Remote / Hybrid Travel Requirements: 25%
SUMMARY Substation Protection and Control Engineers are responsible for designing, developing, testing, and commissioning substation protection, control, and automation schemes for our clients.
PRIMARY DUTIES Engage with clients as a trusted advisor to achieve their digital substation objectives. Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of digital substations. Develop specification documentation employing the Top-Down Engineering approach. Provide technical guidance to ensure adherence to industry standards and best practices. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate into broader grid management systems. Develop conceptual single line diagrams and network diagrams and configure relay devices. Develop and/or lead protection and control procedures and maintenance training programs. Troubleshoot issues regarding protection and control, automation, and relay networks. Serve as an SME in digital substations; IEC 61850, centralized protection, and digital twin technology. Perform other duties as assigned. WORK ENVIRONMENT Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, often for extended periods. Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, using a mouse, writing, and handling office equipment. Repetitive hand, wrist, and finger movements are associated with computer and phone use. Adequate close vision (with or without corrective lenses) and clear hearing and speaking ability. Occasional walking or movement within a home office or remote workspace environment. Occasionally required to lift or move office materials or equipment weighing up to 15 pounds. Ability to maintain ergonomic posture while working with computers and other office tools. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with 5+ years of experience (or similar combination). Desire to continuously gain understanding of power systems, including generation, transmission, and distribution. Troubleshooting skills in protection and control, automation, HMI, or relay networks. Excellent listening, reading, communication (written & verbal), attention to detail, and problem-solving skills. Passion for renewable energy and sustainable solutions. Ability to stay updated with the latest advancements and contribute to our innovation initiatives.
