Position Summary A respected New England structural engineering firm is seeking a driven, hands-on Structural Design Engineer to take ownership of structural steel packages and serve as a vital technical leader. You’ll support design-build retrofits of low-rise commercial buildings and work closely with detailers, GCs, and field crews to ensure code-compliant, buildable outcomes.

Basic Qualifications 5+ years of structural engineering or steel design experience
Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (preferred)
Strong understanding of building codes and structural systems
Field intuition and ability to communicate effectively with trades and GCs
Comfortable traveling to local job sites multiple times per week
Preferred Qualifications Experience with steel detailing, field coordination, and constructability reviews
Familiarity with shop drawings and field-driven design changes
PE license is a plus but not required
Candidates with military backgrounds or Eagle Scout recognition are highly regarded
Key Responsibilities Lead design of steel packages for commercial retrofit projects across New England
Collaborate with detailers and project managers to deliver coordinated, buildable solutions
Interpret codes, specs, and site conditions to develop practical structural designs
Attend job sites regularly to support crews, troubleshoot, and represent the engineering team
Provide quick, field-appropriate adjustments when issues arise
Communicate with stakeholders including contractors, erectors, and vendors
Support concept-to-execution delivery in a design-build setting
Help shape team processes and uphold standards of excellence and accountability
