Our clients team is growing, and we’re looking for a Direct Hire Steam Turbine Engineer who thrives in fast-paced environments and is passionate about driving operational excellence from design to field execution.
Position Overview The Steam Turbine Engineer will provide technical engineering support for steam turbine products and services across field and shop environments. This role plays a key part in outage response, equipment evaluation, procedure development, and ensuring high-quality repairs. The ideal candidate will bring deep knowledge of rotating equipment and a hands-on approach to solving complex engineering problems.
Key Responsibilities Serve as a subject matter expert in steam turbine rotating and stationary components and sub-systems (valves, lube oil, hydraulic systems, seal oil, and controls).
Provide technical support for field and shop operations including repairs, open-clean-close (OCC) work, and outage activities.
Analyze or generate engineering drawings, specifications , and technical data using CAD and related tools.
Develop operating procedures and data sheets for use in both shop and field service operations.
Create project estimates for costs, resources, and schedules .
Oversee and ensure quality control during field/shop turbine repairs, maintaining proper margins and performance outcomes.
Perform or guide tolerance calculations, layout sketches, and dimensional analysis.
Review designs for compliance with engineering standards, customer requirements, and performance criteria.
Coordinate technical development and resolve design/test issues with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Lead or support project engineering/management efforts, including reporting, budgeting, and technical documentation.
Evaluate and approve design changes, specifications, and drawing releases .
Monitor project budgets, expenditures, and schedules to ensure efficiency and adherence to deadlines.
Measure components during manufacturing and field work to ensure compliance with design specifications.
Perform Material Review Board (MRB) responsibilities and disposition nonconforming material.
Oversee welding program development, weld procedure certification , and personnel qualification.
Uphold all safety standards and promote a clean, safe working environment.
Maintain strong communication with clients, vendors, field teams, and internal departments .
Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (required)
5+ years of experience with steam turbine repairs, high-speed rotating equipment, or industrial power generation (preferred)
Proficient in AutoCAD or equivalent drafting/CAD software
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Experience with steam turbine field and shop repair processes (required)
Familiarity with turbine components such as diaphragms, rotors, nozzles, and blades
Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and develop engineering documentation and procedures
Travel Requirements Must be willing and able to travel domestically and internationally to support client and in-house turbine projects
Required to support both Houston and Sullivan, MO operations
Must have a valid Driver’s License
Valid Passport required (or ability to obtain one promptly)
