As we rapidly expand our operations, we're looking for a team to oversee our prototype systems' integration and verification activities.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Staff Laser Process / Application Engineer to join our dynamic and innovative team. This role is crucial for the successful development of our cutting-edge laser-based wafer manufacturing and processing systems. The ideal candidate will have expertise in laser-material interactions, laser process development, laser applications, optical fundamentals, and data analysis, along with a track record of resolving technical problems in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
As a Staff Laser Process / Application Engineer, you will have the following responsibilities:
- Lead the development of innovative laser applications with state of the art lasers
- Lead the implementation of novel laser-based semiconductor wafer fabrication equipment.
- Act as a subject matter expert in laser process development and process optimization
- Work closely with product managers and other stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions.
- Work in a team and contribute to the implementation of next-generation industrial semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
- Make key architectural decisions and influence the technical direction of a product.
- Develop, operate and maintain laser materials processing setups and procedures.
- Conduct hands-on experiments to characterize underlying physical effects in laser assisted material processing
- Use data analysis and simulation to propose design improvements based on experimental results.
- Identify causal relationships between observed performance and design parameters.
- Interpret empirical data and reconcile it with first principles via analytical and/or numerical simulations.
- Summarize and present experimental results to team members.
- Identify and solve technical problems.
- Mentor and guide other engineers.
Requirements
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is a PhD with >5 years of work experience (or an MS with >8 years of work experience) in Physics, Applied Physics, Optics, Mechanical Engineering or Material Science focusing on the development and experimental application of optical or laser devices and systems. In addition, the candidate would have the following specific qualifications:
- Deep understanding of the fundamentals of laser-material interaction and laser materials processing.
- Strong hands-on skills in the design and conducting of laser material processing experiments and analyzing results
- Experience with laser process development and equipment design
- Experience with optical system design, beam shaping and focusing.
- Experience with DOE (design of experiments), data collection and data analysis (e.g. JMP, SQL, MATLAB, Python).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with laser processing of semiconductor and/or transparent materials.
- Experience with ultrafast pulsed lasers and their applications in materials processing
- Experience with applications using laser scanners.
- Experience in analytical or numerical simulation
- Experience with laser micromachining applications such as ablation, surface structuring and multi-photon absorption
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proficiency to work well in an interdisciplinary team environment, collaborating with electrical and control engineers and materials experts.

- Base salary $150,000 - $180,000
