Moog Space and Defense Group is projecting significant growth driven by high levels of U.S. Department of Defense spending and the thirst for human exploration. The Niagara Falls Site supplies rocket engines, propulsion systems, and propellant tanks for a variety of spacecraft, launch vehicle, and strategic defense missions.
We are looking for an experienced rocket engine (thruster) design engineer to join our growing team and help lead the way in new engine design. Primary applications are monopropellant and bipropellant rocket engines and propulsion systems for strategic missiles, LEO, GEO, and exploration missions with thrust ranges from 0.2 lbf to >500 lbf. The position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance and access to U.S. export-controlled information.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering with 12 years of proven industry experience in-space rocket engine design; MS or PhD preferred. Candidates with less than 10 years' experience will be considered based on relevant design and development experience.
At least 12 years of progressive experience, with 5 years supporting development projects.
Experience interfacing with customers and strong verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to mentor engineers.
Ability to understand new technical concepts and products, assess risks, and take appropriate actions.
Experience designing rocket engines for large-scale production with a design for manufacturing mindset is a plus.
Responsibilities:
Lead engine design to support customer missions, including injector, nozzle/chamber, and valve requirements for various use cases.
Support and conduct detailed analyses for combustion, thermal, structural, dynamic, and plume aspects of rocket engines.
Plan test campaigns to demonstrate engine compliance with requirements.
Mentor and coach other engineers in engine and system design.
Work with CAD tools like Teamcenter/NX to generate and review designs and drawings.
Translate customer requirements into engineering strategies and establish contacts with the customer base as a subject matter expert.
Support pursuits and provide guidance to other Moog business units.
Perform trade studies and analyses to validate solutions.
Assist in interviewing, training, and counseling junior engineers.
Present work to colleagues and customers.
Additional Details:
The primary site is at Niagara Falls, NY, with consideration for other Moog locations in East Aurora NY, Arvada CO, Mountain View CA, Chatsworth CA, Gilbert AZ, or Huntsville AL. Occasional travel to Niagara Falls may be required.

Salary Range:
Niagara Falls, NY: $100,000 - $215,000 annually
