Job Summary
The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a Sr. Systems Engineer on the Dahlonega campus. The Senior Systems Engineer's mission is to architect services and systems that provide innovative, flexible, dependable and effective University business and research computing services in a multi-campus environment. Engineers multiple platforms and applications in testing, development and production environments. Identifies areas that can benefit from automated solutions to improve efficiencies. Works to minimize system failures and errors to maximize mean time between failures (MTBF). This senior-level position is expected to demonstrate excellent initiative and discretion, be the subject matter expert (SME) in their areas of focus, and have the ability to operate with minimal oversight.
Responsibilities
Leads major projects regarding system architecting and design. Ensures systems are optimized for performance and stability, ensures systems conform to security best practices, develops and ensures proper support of general University systems in a multi-campus environment. Implements industry standards and best practices to develop production environments for all systems, including designing and maintaining a development environment for testing newly developed solutions. Functions the as subject matter expert for complex endpoint computing platforms including the Apple portfolio, mobile device management, inventory, software deployment, and department specific technology implementations. Develop, manage and test system backups and restores to ensure data integrity and business continuity. Perform regular security audits of enterprise systems and data, including working with Information Security and Networking teams. Pursues problems in University Systems through proactive problem management to affect reduction in incidents. Develops and maintains reporting mechanisms to measure the computing environment's performance and compliance. Pursue continuing education in I.T. as it relates to the position by way of higher education, technical training, and industry-recognized certifications. Conducts research on emerging products, services and standards in support of systems procurement and development efforts. Steers and conducts training for the endpoint systems engineering team. Assist supervisor and other IT units with troubleshooting and repair of services, and perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of installing, configuring and maintaining Windows, and Apple operating systems and applications. Robust understanding of scripting, and service provisioning. Virtualization experience. Familiarity with project management best practices and ITSM best practices such as incident, problem and change management. Expert-level familiarity with Apple products. Skills: Strong foundational understanding of IT systems; ability to manage multiple complex projects; effective decision making and excellent customer service. Ability to assess situational information and make sound complex decisions with minimal oversight. Abilities: Strong oral and written communication in user-friendly language; excellent interpersonal and teamwork abilities; problem-solving abilities that include research into issues and products.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree Five years' experience as a systems administrator or engineer, maintenance and repair experience; Or, an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Degree in Computer Science preferred. At least one relevant IT certification preferred.
Proposed Salary
Minimum Starting Salary: $73,155 annual
