The AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we're the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain and we're looking for talented people who want to help. You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers.
The AWS GCNA (Global Connectivity and Network Availability) Organization is looking for a Network Development Engineer to join our Backbone Enterprise, and Regional Engineering (BERE) team. Network Development Engineers partner with our broader Infrastructure organization on configurations standards and tools, and collaborate with Systems and Software Engineers to ensure fast, smooth roll-out of new designs and products, and also deploy and sustain networking software tools. AWS GCNA (Global Connectivity and Network Availability) is the backbone that connects the global AWS network. Focused on controlling the internet traffic that allows users to access their information and applications regardless of where they are in the world. GCNA is responsible for building and designing a complex backbone network that allows internet traffic to flow efficiently between data centers and customers.
Key job responsibilities include:
- Design network designs, services and deployment procedures that solve for many requirements.
- Decide on the projects that best support your team's mission.
- Design ahead of customer or technology needs, always predicting and solving for problems that have not yet occurred.
- Create and automate deployment processes that increases quality and velocity.
- Work closely with our internal customers on designs/solutions; bringing those designs/solutions from concept to production.
A day in the life includes:
- Being part of the Enterprise Network Engineering team responsible for the network and design which connects 500+ remote offices and serve multiple internal Fabrics using Enterprise core network.
- Managing an Enterprise Network with a scale of 100K+ Network Devices.
- Designing, deploying, and managing this large network using Automation.
- Possessing strong written and verbal communication skills, strong project management and time management skills.
- Having a successful track record of designing simple, scalable solutions and troubleshooting complex network problems and delivering innovative solutions.
- Working in a fast paced, collaborative environment.
- Having traditional networking routing, switching experience, and firewall experience.
- Possessing AWS networking skills such as VPC, Transit Gateway, DX gateways, NAT gateways, Load balancer, Cloud watch.
About the team:
Within AWS Networking, the Backbone Enterprise, and Regional Engineering (BERE) organization is responsible for the design, implementation, and operations of a wide array of networking infrastructure that provide global connectivity between all AWS Regions and edge locations. BERE provides the massive scale required to support our AWS customers and internal services, via a network that grows by 70% annually. In addition, they have teams that are responsible for the design and operation of our global corporate office and data center network, allowing tens of thousands of Amazonians to perform their daily tasks in support of our customers.

Basic Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience is mandatory.
- 8+ years of IP networking fundamentals and extensive experience in the application of IP protocols as well as network analysis fundamentals and robust troubleshooting skills.
- 8+ years of experience with major internet routing protocols; specifically, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, RSVP, and ISIS in a large enterprise environment.
- 3+ years experience with Unix/Linux skills and the ability to script in Python, Perl, shell.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A Masters in Computer Science, MBA, or equivalent experience.
- Senior or Lead Engineer experience at other organizations.
- Expert-level certifications (e.g. CCIE, JNCIE) a plus.
Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $143,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $247,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
