PRINCIPAL HV TRANSMISSION ENGINEER - LEVEL 5

SUMMARY

The Principal HV Transmission Engineer - Level 5 will lead the design and analysis of high-voltage

transmission lines from 4.16kV to 525kV. As a Transmission Line Design leader, you will be respon-

sible for developing innovative and efficient solutions that ensure safe and reliable electricity

transport across vast distances. Your expertise will be crucial in advancing our energy infrastructure

and delivering sustainable power solutions. This position reports to the Director of SME, or another

management personnel that the CEO of the Company may designate. This position reports to the

Irvine, CA office but will maintain a hybrid schedule of working out of their home office and the

Irvine, CA office. Working hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00am to 5:00pm or 9:00am to

6:00pm local time.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITIES





Lead the conceptual and detailed design of high-voltage transmission lines, considering

factors such as tower configurations, conductor selection, insulation, and line hardware.

Create complete IFC designs for transmission lines, covering conceptual, preliminary, and

final detailed design steps, including material procurement and construction support

through line energizat ion.



Develop and review design deliverables (e.g., plan and profile drawings, structure loading

tables, bills of material, etc.) for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with industry

standards.













Utilize engineering software and tools to perform load flow analysis, voltage drop calcula-

tions, and electromagnetic interference studies to ensure optimal design outcomes.

Perform structural analysis and simulations to ensure the stability and resilience of trans-

mission line structures, including lattice towers, monopoles, and foundations.

Evaluate the impact of wind, ice, seismic events, and other external factors on the perfor-

mance of transmission line systems.

Manage scoping, budgeting, scheduling, planning, executing, monitoring, and reporting of

transmission line projects and proposals to ensure reliable, cost-effective solutions.

Lead engineers, designers, drafters, and support staff to translate technical requirements

into construction-ready drawings and documen tation.

Prepare comprehensive technical specifications, design drawings, and reports that docu-

ment the transmission line design process, calculations, assumptions, and recommenda-

tions.











Review vendor drawings, specs, and proposals, ensuring proper equipment and materials

(poles, towers, conductors, insulators, etc.) are selected.

Ensure that all transmission line designs adhere to industry codes, standards, and regula-

tions, including NESC, IEEE, IEC, and regional grid codes.

Stay current with evolving industry standards and best practices, implementing innovations

that enhance project delivery, safety, and reliability.

Provide technical support during the construction phase, including responding to queries,

reviewing contractor submissions, and conducting site visits as needed.

Stay up to date with the latest developments in transmission line design, structural engi-

neering, and renewable energy technologies.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS









A Bachelor of Science or Master's Degree in Civil Engineering (or an acceptable combina-

tion of education and experience).

Minimum of 10 years of professional engineering experience in the power industry, specific

to transmission line projects.

Advanced knowledge of transmission engineering principles, with expertise in applicable

codes, standards, and design tools (e.g., PLS-CADD).

Ability to direct and oversee multiple technical disciplines, coordinating design teams,

schedules, and budgets.







Assertive, able to cope with pressure, a team player

Excellent written and verbal communication and organization skills

Professional Engineering (PE) license.
