Position Overview:
The Solutions Engineer is responsible for the design, deployment, integration, and ongoing support of customer technology solutions spanning networking, security, server, storage, and cloud environments. This role requires a broad technical skillset, with the ability to work across multiple technology domains to deliver cohesive and reliable solutions that meet customer business objectives.
The Solutions Engineer works closely with Solution Architects, Account Executives, Project Managers, and other engineering disciplines to translate business requirements into technical designs, implement those designs in production environments, and provide advanced support for complex or escalated issues. In addition to deploying new solutions, the role supports ongoing operations by maintaining optimal system performance, ensuring security compliance, and integrating disparate technologies into unified environments.
This position plays a key role in the lifecycle of customer engagements - from pre-sales discovery and technical scoping, through implementation and post-deployment support, to identifying opportunities for future service enhancements. The Solutions Engineer is expected to work across a variety of customer environments, which may include Cisco, Meraki, Fortinet, HPE/Aruba, Microsoft 365, Azure, VMware, Nutanix, and other platforms, and to possess the versatility to handle both network and systems engineering tasks as well as integration between them.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Sales Assistance
Collaborate with Solution Architects and Account Executives to understand customer requirements and provide technical expertise during pre-sales discussions and presentations. Address technical inquiries and concerns from prospective customers, providing tailored recommendations that align with business and technical goals. Maintain awareness of industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive offerings to effectively position our solutions. Implementation Design and plan deployments for network, security, server, storage, and integrated system solutions based on customer requirements and best practices. Configure and deploy networking equipment (routers, switches, firewalls, wireless), servers, storage systems, and supporting applications according to design specifications. Implement integrations between on-premises infrastructure and cloud services (e.g., Microsoft 365, Azure, hybrid environments). Conduct testing and validation to ensure solution performance, functionality, and security compliance. Collaborate with internal and customer teams to coordinate implementation activities, minimizing business disruption. Document configurations, integration workflows, and standard operating procedures for knowledge transfer and future troubleshooting. Support Operations Provide ongoing support for deployed solutions, responding to incidents, service requests, and change management activities. Troubleshoot issues across networking, systems, and integrated platforms; diagnose root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Monitor performance and security posture using industry tools, performing proactive maintenance where required. Escalate complex or vendor-specific issues when needed to ensure timely resolution. Maintain accurate and detailed records of incidents, changes, and service requests in accordance with SLAs and KPIs. Service Development Work with product management and engineering teams to identify opportunities for enhancing existing services and introducing new offerings. Participate in service design initiatives, contributing technical expertise to improve integration capabilities and service efficiency. Research and evaluate emerging technologies that could strengthen the company's portfolio of solutions. Assist in creating and updating service documentation, including user guides, training materials, and knowledge base articles. Gather customer feedback to inform service enhancements and ensure solutions remain aligned with evolving business needs.
Qualifications 7+ years of experience in solutions engineering or systems/network engineering, with hands-on exposure to both networking and server/system environments. Strong proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting Cisco routing, switching, and wireless technologies (IOS, Catalyst, Meraki, Nexus). Experience deploying and managing Fortinet firewalls and security tools (FortiGate, FortiAnalyzer, FortiManager). Familiarity with HPE/Aruba networking solutions, as well as server and storage platforms. Working knowledge of Microsoft technologies, including Active Directory, Windows Server, Microsoft 365, and Azure. Understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs, DNS) and systems concepts (virtualization, storage, backup, DR). Experience with network/system monitoring and management tools (e.g., Auvik, OpsRamp, Prism). Relevant certifications such as CCNA/CCNP, Fortinet NSE, HPE ASE, or Microsoft certifications are highly desirable. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and project management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in both independent and collaborative team settings.
