RESPONSIBILITIES: Must be able to identify, evaluate, and resolve non-routine welding engineering problems as they relate to nontraditional manufacturing and repair work in an accurate, timely and informed manner.
Must proactively seek and accept responsibility for solving new and difficult welding engineering challenges, while appropriately assessing and managing risks.
Must provide technical support and directions to a skilled labor force and to Weld Development Lab Technicians in support of materials, joining, testing and evaluation.
Must work with design and manufacturing engineering to resolve materials joining issues before and during manufacturing and provide technical support to suppliers and customers.
Must review supplier qualifications and procedures and provide support for audits of suppliers.
Must develop and manage materials joining work plans including schedules, budgets, and resource requirements to meet both EMD and project objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS: B.S. Degree in Welding Engineering, Welding Engineering Technology, Metallurgy, or Materials Science from an accredited Institution. (M.S. preferred).
Must have 10 years of related experience is preferred.
Must have extensive knowledge of arc welding processes (FCAW, GMAW, GTAW, SAW, SMAW, and PTAW).
Must have knowledge and experience with at least one of the following welding codes (ASME Section III & IX, AWS, and NAVSEA).
Must have experience in working with carbon, low, high alloy and stainless steels, nickel, and copper-based alloys, as well as dissimilar metal welding.
Must have prior experience as a welding, materials, or manufacturing engineer.
Must be a US citizen and be able to obtain and maintain DOD security clearance.
