Overview
The Azure Core New Tech team is seeking engineers who are eager to automate how new hardware is verified, provisioned, and delivered to datacenters for Azure, High-Performance Computing, Office, and Edge Computing products within Microsoft. Our work is at the interface of software and hardware, with a focus on the managed code and architecture orchestrating the provisioning and validation of hardware but with frequent collaboration with hardware teams and direct debugging of servers and devices. We ensure the quality and security of hardware entering Microsoft datacenters. We are at the leading edge of new hardware platforms coming to the cloud. The team is focused on automating the management and onboarding of new technology to bring innovative technologies to market faster.
In Azure Core New Tech team, your role as a Senior Software Engineer will be to understand requirements, create designs, and implement the features needed to adapt to new technologies. You will drive support for new hardware designs including debugging against real hardware, extend the scope of validations within our products, and extend multi-threaded code for orchestration and provisioning. Your primary contributions will be high-level managed code and processes. This opportunity will let you grow your skills in software and hardware by collaborating with various Azure teams, learning about the emerging technologies in the industry, and bring change to Azure.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, JavaOR equivalent experience. 2+ year(s) experience where designed, proposed, and managed software features across teams: APIs, schema, etc. 1+ year(s) experience with Validation of datacenter hardware, managing multiple types of hardware/firmware.OR Networking concepts including specific network protocols and devices.OR Platform development: orchestrator/policy engines/test platforms/core libraries used across multiple teams. Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year. Drives identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform. Creates, implements, optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to establish and improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI). Leverages subject-matter expertise of product features and partners with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers) to drive a workgroup's project plans, release plans, and work items. Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guides other engineers by developing and following the playbook, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, alerting stakeholders about status and initiates actions to restore system/product/service for simple and complex problems when appropriate. Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
