About the Role As a Senior Software Engineer for Android on the Location & Sensors team, you will be instrumental in enhancing Uber's Location Platform and advancing our geospatial capabilities. Your work will focus on improving location accuracy and sensor data processing, significantly impacting various Uber products and services, including transportation and delivery. What You'll Do Lead the design, architecture, and implementation of Android applications that utilize sensor and location data. Collaborate with cross-functional partners, including Product Managers, designers, backend engineers, and map data specialists, to create seamless and scalable experiences. Drive the development of Uber's Location and Sensor SDKs, catering to real-time, high-performance geospatial applications. Mentor and guide a team of engineers, enhancing engineering best practices and fostering professional growth. Own the optimization of critical aspects related to location processing, sensor integration, latency, and accuracy in rendering. Work with platform teams to explore innovative possibilities on mobile devices. Contribute to the long-term vision and technical strategy for Uber's Maps platform. Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (Master's preferred). 5+ years of experience building Android applications using Java and/or Kotlin. Solid understanding of Android fundamentals, UI rendering, and performance optimization. Proven ability to lead complex technical initiatives across teams. Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience in maps, navigation, or location-based services. Familiarity with GIS concepts and spatial data structures. Previous contributions to Android SDKs or platform-level libraries. Established track record of mentorship and technical leadership within engineering teams. Compensation For San Francisco, CA, and Sunnyvale, CA-based roles, the base salary range is USD$198,000 per year - USD$220,000 per year. Additionally, all US location roles are eligible for participation in Uber's bonus program, equity awards, and other compensation types.
