As a Senior Safety Specialist / Engineer, you will be an integral part of Ponsse's Global Safety Team, enhancing safety capabilities within your area in North America. You will manage the safety roadmap and contribute to the overall safety strategy. In this role, you will collaborate closely with our People Partners, safety colleagues, and business leaders to ensure adherence to safety practices and guidelines in your area. You will systematically share learnings and best practices across the organization, ensuring our leaders are well-equipped to maintain safety standards in their respective areas. Additionally, you will oversee the follow-up and implementation of safety standards and other relevant measures.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with management locally and globally to develop, prepare, and implement safety policies and procedures.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and training.
Ensure full alignment and transparency with Ponsse Group safety guidelines and policies.
Ensure the completion of required OSHA recordkeeping and reporting, as well as compliance with DOT licensing, recordkeeping, and testing requirements.
Provide technical and administrative support to the safety committee.
Identify opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
Conduct safety inspections and audits to assess compliance with safety regulations, standards, and other requirements.
Support global audit processes and safety event investigations.
Conduct employee training on applicable safety standards and new hire orientations.
Prepare monthly reports and manage annual budget requests related to health, safety, and environment.
Qualifications:
Degree in a relevant field such as Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or other relevant education.
Excellent knowledge of OSHA standards and current company safety policies.
Work experience in similar type of safety roles is seen as benefit, international experience is an advantage.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to conduct training sessions and excellent organizational skills.
Ability to work in a multi-cultural, matrix organization.
Formal training and certificates in Safety are preferred.
Fluent in English.
Valid driver's license.

You are proactive, creative, and take the initiative to generate ideas. Your attention to detail and ability to work well under pressure are commendable. You will be part of Ponsse's Group People, Safety & Culture team, reporting to the Global Safety Manager and collaborating closely with the team across Ponsse's countries and subsidiaries. Your working location will be in Rhinelander, WI, North America. This role will require some travel, including international trips.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position will be responsible for ensuring that all sites maintain the OSHA safety log and other requirements related to safety operations and regulations.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. This job operates in both a professional office environment as well as a mechanical workshop. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical Demands:
This is a combination of a sedentary role as well as an active role.
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections.
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. depending on the daily work duties. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the "core" work hours. Since the global collaboration, the possibility of work in regular basis early in the morning is set as an expectation.
Travel:
This position requires up to 25% travel. Some of the travel is international.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Formal training and certificates in Safety are preferred. Prior related safety experience is seen as an asset. Ongoing educational training is expected to remain up to date with regulations.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees of the organization.
Speak English fluently.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
Driving license.
Ability to work in multi-cultural, matrix organization.
