The Senior Quality Engineer is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and improving quality standards for products manufactured in a high-reliability, low-volume, high-mix electronics environment. This role provides hands-on engineering support to production and serves as a key liaison for quality issues with both customers and suppliers. The position requires a strong technical foundation in electronic assembly and a disciplined approach to root cause and corrective action methodologies.
Responsibilities:
Perform as the technical team leader while interfacing with customers and suppliers on product performance
Serve as the primary contact with customers on quality issues
Responsible for the development of customer specific Quality Program Plans
Performs P.O. and SOW reviews to ensure Sypris compliance and/or take exceptions as required to ensure compliance to customer specifications
Key team member in manufacturing and production readiness reviews
Responsible for generating and approving AS9102 FAI's to contract and prints
Strong participation with program teams in an effort to drive high product quality, continuous improvement, and increased customer satisfaction
Reviews quality and product data to ensure conformance to specifications
Analyzes process, product, and component performances to identify continuous improvement opportunities
Establishes and implements statistical process controls
Manages, analyzes, and publishes Quality Assurance Performance Reports for assigned projects including process yields, defect/root cause analyses and associated corrective actions
Leads failure analysis efforts on systemic non-conformances and field returns implementing appropriate corrective action
Generates quality alerts, deviations, purges, and other process documentation
Performs MRB review and engage Team/Customer as required to disposition product and raw components
Evaluation, approval, implementation and verification of ECO's
Designs and implements methods and procedures for testing and inspecting the quality level of products and production equipment
Analyzes reports and returned products and recommends corrective action
Evaluates new quality standards as required
Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
Minimum of 7 years in quality or process engineering within electronic component and assembly manufacturing
Possess an in-depth understanding of high-mix/low-volume manufacturing
Hands on technical experience with SMT assembly processes and requirements, including AS9100/9102; IPC-610; and J-STD-001
Extensive knowledge and experience creating and reviewing full or partial FAI's per AS9102
Extensive knowledge of Corrective Action and failure reporting processes
Experience with document collection, hardware hierarchy, and specification reviews with customers
Extensive knowledge of data collection and statistical techniques including ability to implement Statistical Process Control
Extensive knowledge in RCCA and building quality into the process
Knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma principles and application methods
Experience with implementing Lean tools/methods (Standard work, 5S, cells, TPM, 1 piece flow, Set Up reduction, Poka Yoke)
Experience with process improvement changes through Kaizen or other focused methods
Familiarity with work standards and visual manufacturing instructions
Strong skills with MS Office programs
Experience working with MRP systems and inventory availability analysis
Strong interpersonal skills and team building skills
Experience with answering Customer corrective action with detailed information and in a timely manner
Ability to operate independently or as a team as the work dictates
Strong time management skills
Possess or have the ability to obtain a U.S. Government granted security clearance
