Our Northeast Division is a well-respected and award-winning group where career development, training, and mentoring co-exist with diverse civil, environmental, water resources, and traffic/transportation projects in a fast-paced and challenging work environment. We are seeking a talented Senior Project Engineer to support our Wastewater practice. The selected employee will provide technical support for a variety of utility design related projects, including treatment plants, pump/booster stations, and water distribution systems.

This is a remote position and can be located anywhere in the United States. The position may require 10-20% travel.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Assist the Project Manager in planning, coordinating, and executing projects of various sizes.
  2. Work effectively within prescribed budgets and monitor performance weekly.
  3. Develop and negotiate scopes, fees, and schedules with sub-consultants under the guidance of the Project Manager.
  4. Develop technical solutions for complex projects, applying engineering knowledge to produce quality work, and assist in all project scope aspects.
  5. Help ensure project schedules and budgets are met, report on progress, and identify scope changes.
  6. Collaborate closely with Project Managers to gain project management experience and oversee financial performance of tasks or projects.
  7. Serve as the Technical Lead for respective disciplines on complex projects, coordinating among design disciplines and subcontractors.
  8. Supervise and mentor less experienced staff, providing guidance and checking their work; contribute to annual reviews.
  9. Develop technical approaches, schedules, and estimates for proposals on large or complex projects.
  10. Maintain quality control by reviewing designs, calculations, and assumptions on complex projects.
  11. Participate in client meetings, including public hearings, and prepare and deliver presentations.
  12. Lead construction administration tasks, including progress meetings, submittal reviews, and project closeout activities, providing updates to the Project Manager.
  13. Maintain awareness of corporate priorities regarding quality, client satisfaction, and profitability.
  14. Understand contract terms, professional liability, and advise the Project Manager accordingly.
  15. Participate in external professional associations and conferences, and publish technical papers.
  16. Identify potential claims through documentation and reporting.
  17. If applicable, manage a direct report, overseeing workload, expenses, and career development.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's of Science in Civil or Environmental Engineering with 6 years of wastewater design experience, or a Master's with 5+ years of experience.
  2. Registered Professional Engineer, or working towards licensure within one year, in a state where Apex operates, or ability to obtain reciprocity.
  3. Proven writing skills for technical memoranda, reports, proposals, and contracts.
  4. Ability to supervise and train staff, coordinate efforts among disciplines and consultants, and interact effectively with clients.
  5. Valid driver's license.
