About The Role

As a Senior Nuclear Engineer – Safety Analysis with Westinghouse Fauske & Associates, Inc. (FAI), you will support calculations and validation experiments to maintain nuclear safety performance engineering calculations and assessments for nuclear power plants, waste treatment, and severe accident modeling. Severe accident modeling will include thermal-hydraulics modeling and analysis, heat and mass transfer, and radiological source term. You will report to the Manager of Experimental & Accident Modeling / Safety Analysis, Risk Applications, and Licensing. The position is hybrid, requiring 2 days per week on-site at our office in Burr Ridge, IL, with remote work arrangements considered for highly qualified candidates.

Key Responsibilities

Perform calculations and support validation experiments to maintain nuclear safety performance engineering calculations and assessments for nuclear power plants, waste treatment, and severe accident modeling, including thermal-hydraulics modeling and analysis, heat and mass transfer, and radiological source term.

Support thermal-hydraulic analysis for system performance, water hammer, and other thermal-hydraulic phenomena.

Support software development and implement mathematical models into a C++ codebase, Fortran, and Python.

Prepare documentation for evaluations.

Verify first of a kind evaluations.

Qualifications

BS Engineering (Nuclear, Chemical, or Mechanical).

Minimum 6 plus years of applicable experience.

Mathematical and modeling skills such as: Thermodynamics.

Transport phenomena (momentum, heat, and mass).

Kinetics.

Multi-phase flow modeling.

PRA (Probabilistic Risk Assessments).

C++, Fortran, Visual Basic, MathCAD, or Python.

Base salary range for this position is estimated to be $85,200 to $106,500 per year, dependent on experience, qualifications, and skills.
