As a Senior Mission Operations Engineer, you will be responsible for the real-time management of spacecraft and execution of space missions. This role involves monitoring spacecraft operations, coordinating with various teams, and ensuring that mission objectives are met efficiently and effectively.
This is a full-time, exempt position based on-site at our Irvine, California headquarters.
Key ResponsibilitiesMonitor, assess, and maintain the operational health of Turion Space’s spacecraft fleet
Provide operational support as the operations expert in planning for and execution of pre-flight testing and checkouts to ensure spacecraft and ground systems are ready for flight
Coordinate troubleshooting activities in response to satellite and network anomalies
Identify, investigate, and execute procedures to resolve spacecraft system and subsystem deviations and anomalies
Develop and distribute reports summarizing technical analysis findings and recommendations to include monthly and annual satellite health and status reports as well as anomaly resolution reports
Create telemetry monitoring tools, procedures, and manuals to assist with current and future spacecraft fleet development
Support development, launch, and in-orbit testing of new satellites
Successfully complete mission operations training program
Support On-Call responsibilities
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or science discipline or equivalent experience in the field.
5+ years of experience in spacecraft operations or adjacent field.
Strong understanding of spacecraft systems and mission operations.
Experience working with one or more mission control software solutions.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to address operational issues and implement effective solutions in real-time.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively interact with cross-functional teams and present mission information clearly.
Strong attention to detail with regards to monitoring and controlling spacecraft operations.
Ability to adapt and overcome challenges in a fast-paced environment with a desire to improve the status quo.
Must be able to obtain a Secret and/or a TS/SCI clearance.
Expertise in advanced mission control techniques and systems. Experience with complex spacecraft and mission scenarios.
Relevant certifications in mission operations or space systems (e.g., Certified Space Mission Operator, Systems Engineering Professional (SEP)).
Extensive experience in the aerospace or space technology sectors, particularly with spacecraft control and mission execution.
Demonstrated ability to innovate and improve mission control processes and procedures.
ITAR Requirements:
This position may include access to technology and/or software source code that is subject to U.S. export controls. To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
