Senior Mechanical Packaging Design Engineer

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Packaging Design Engineer to collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary Integrated Product Team (IPT), including project management, applied mechanics, and electrical design. This role involves supporting a wide range of aerospace projects, such as cockpit displays, flight controls, air management systems, military avionics, and other avionics equipment. Assignments may involve either rotary-wing (helicopter) or fixed-wing aircraft platforms.

Depending on qualifications and program requirements, the candidate may contribute to commercial or military programs. Responsibilities will include conceptual (clean sheet) design, delivering development hardware, enabling production hardware delivery, managing engineering changes to production configurations, and providing ongoing support for fielded engines.

What You Will Do

  • Resolve complex thermal and structural challenges by developing balanced, system-level solutions that ensure engineering excellence with minimal supervision.
  • Review and approve product definition data to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Design development hardware that meets project objectives and supports on-time delivery.
  • Implement technically sound engineering changes within schedule while meeting performance goals.
  • Apply standard work practices and CORE/ACE tools to drive continuous improvements in the design process.
  • Mentor and guide other engineers on technical topics and process best practices.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities grounded in solid engineering principles.
  • Apply direct experience with thermal management, structural integrity, and electronic packaging design.
  • Understand hardware development and manufacturing processes to optimize designs.
  • Utilize thermal and structural analysis software proficiently to validate designs.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail, meeting deadlines, and providing clear status reporting.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills and foster collaboration, innovation, and initiative through both verbal and written communication.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Working knowledge of environmental testing equipment, procedures, and qualification standards, such as RTCA DO-160 and MIL-STD-810G.
  • Active U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance, or the ability to obtain one.
  • Familiarity with design and manufacturing processes for Circuit Card Assemblies.
  • Experience in thermal and structural analysis, with proficiency using simulation tools such as ANSYS or similar.
  • Demonstrated expertise in mechanical packaging for avionics or aerospace systems, including electronic packaging best practices.
  • Understanding of hardware development lifecycle, from concept through production and field support.
  • Experience with engineering change management and configuration control processes.
  • Ability to interpret and create technical documentation, drawings, and specifications using CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks).
  • Proven problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or collaboratively within a cross-functional team.
  • Familiarity with reliability and maintainability engineering principles is a plus.
  • Experience supporting both military and commercial aerospace programs is highly desirable.
