JOB OVERVIEW As a key contributor to the Sales and New Business Development Team, the Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for supporting the early stages of customer initiatives. This includes working directly with customers in receiving and interpreting project specifications, reviewing 3D and 2D CAD models, extracting and evaluating BOM’s, performing design reviews with customers, offering mechanical DFM and design support, moving a customer inquiry to a prototype, then first article units, and then production manufacturing. This role will be the lead technical relationship with customers from inquiry to production. The ideal candidate will have a broad mechanical engineering background, strong proficiency in mechanical design, and a passion for customer service. ROLE + RESPONSIBILITIES (includes but not limited to) Technical lead in helping customers bring new products and designs to market. Support customers with onshoring, regionalization, and/or new product launches. Common applications are renewable energy systems including BESS, carbon capture, electrolyzers, and microgrid products incorporating containerized solutions (with an emphasis on BESS applications). Supports customers with DFM to achieve cost down initiatives. Ability to utilize and work with 3D models, fabrication drawings, and BOMs. General understanding of CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, or AutoCAD Works with mechanical enclosure layouts in collaboration with customers and internal resources. Collaborates with internal support teams including design, engineering, quality, purchasing, project managers, and production throughout the product development process. QUALIFICATIONS Education: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field. Experience: 7-10 years of experience in mechanical design, system integration, or project engineering. Strong communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional teams. Demonstrated ability to manage product development cycles to meet deadlines. A customer facing disposition with strong communication and problem-solving skills. LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES This position does not directly supervise other associates. TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS Occasional travel required. PREFERRED SKILLS Strong understanding of mechanical systems, sheet metal design, and structural steel fabrication. Knowledge of manufacturing processes and DFM principles. Familiarity with utility-scale battery energy storage applications. A familiarity with (or willingness to learn) codes including UL 9540/9540A, NFPA 855, and NEC. Familiarity of structural designs for ISO containers and customized enclosures. Familiarity in sheet metal, structural steel, or fabrication manufacturing environment including weldments and skid/frame structures. Experience working with containerized or enclosure applications including battery energy storage, industrial enclosures, and/or power generation systems. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and project tracking tools.
