As a Senior Mechatronic Design Engineer at Prime Robotics, you are a highly skilled technical expert focused on optimizing our robotic product designs from both mechanical and electrical perspectives. Reporting to the VP of Hardware and Robotics Software Engineering, you will work to analyze current designs and drive systematic improvements for better performance, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness. This is a hands-on technical role where you'll be the lead engineer responsible for design optimization and continuous product improvement.

A Day in the Life at Prime Robotics
Design Optimization & Analysis
Analyze existing robot designs to identify opportunities for mechanical and electrical improvements
Conduct comprehensive design reviews and performance assessments of current product portfolio
Optimize component selection, materials, and design configurations for enhanced performance and reliability
Develop design alternatives and conduct trade-off analyses to determine optimal solutions
Create detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and design documentation using CAD software
Perform stress analysis, thermal analysis, and other engineering calculations to validate design improvements
Research and evaluate new technologies, materials, and components for product enhancement
Maintain and optimize Bill of Materials (BOM) for cost reduction and supply chain efficiency
Mechanical Design Excellence
Optimize mechanical systems including structural components, motion systems, and mechanisms
Improve joint designs, actuators, sensors, and mechanical interfaces for better performance
Conduct tolerance analysis and design validation to ensure reliable mechanical operation
Design for durability, maintenance accessibility, and field serviceability
Optimize weight distribution, center of gravity, and mechanical stability
Enhance mechanical safety features and fail-safe mechanisms
Electrical Design Enhancement
Optimize electrical systems including power distribution, control circuits, and sensor integration
Improve cable management, connector selection, and electrical interface designs
Enhance electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and reduce electrical noise/interference
Optimize power consumption and thermal management of electrical components
Design for electrical safety, protection, and diagnostic capabilities
Improve electrical accessibility for maintenance and troubleshooting
Design for Manufacturing (DFM) & Quality Assurance
Apply DFM principles to reduce manufacturing complexity and costs
Collaborate with manufacturing teams to optimize designs for production scalability
Establish design standards and best practices for consistent quality
Develop quality control specifications and acceptance criteria for design improvements
Create validation and testing protocols to verify design optimization effectiveness
Document design changes and maintain comprehensive design history
Manage and optimize Bill of Materials (BOM) including cost analysis, supplier evaluation, and component standardization
Conduct BOM reviews to identify cost reduction opportunities and eliminate redundant components
Technical Leadership
Drive design optimization initiatives with minimal supervision and clear accountability
Make engineering recommendations and decisions on design trade-offs and technical approaches
Coordinate with engineering teams in China to implement design modifications
Present design recommendations and technical analysis to leadership team
Manage multiple design optimization projects simultaneously with clear prioritization
Education
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field
Master's degree preferred with focus on design engineering, robotics, or advanced mechanical systems
Professional Experience
5+ years of engineering experience in design optimization, robotics, or complex electromechanical systems
3+ years of hands-on mechanical design experience with product development and optimization
2+ years of electrical design experience with control systems, power electronics, or sensor integration
Proven track record of independent design work and successful optimization projects
Experience with design validation, testing, and performance improvement initiatives
Technical Skills
Advanced CAD proficiency (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar)
Engineering analysis tools including FEA software, simulation tools, and performance modeling
Design for manufacturing principles and cost optimization techniques
Quality assurance methodologies and design validation processes
BOM management including cost analysis, component sourcing, and supplier evaluation
Documentation tools for creating technical specifications and design records
Data analysis skills for performance evaluation and design optimization
Preferred Qualifications
Robotics & Automation Experience
Industrial robotics experience with collaborative robots, autonomous systems, or warehouse automation
Robotic system integration including sensors, actuators, and control electronics
Motion control systems experience with servo motors, encoders, and positioning systems
Safety systems design for industrial robotics applications
Human-robot interaction design considerations and safety protocols
Industry Expertise
Warehouse automation or material handling systems experience
Physical and Work Environment
Physical Requirements
Ability to work in laboratory environments with robotic systems and prototypes
Manual dexterity for detailed design work, measurements, and component evaluation
Visual acuity for design review, technical documentation, and quality assessment
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs when handling components and test equipment
Standing and walking for extended periods during design reviews and testing
Work Environment
100% on-site position based in Denver, CO robotics laboratory and design facility

Base Salary
$140,000 - $160,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications
