The Cardiac and Vascular Group brings all of our cardiac and vascular businesses together into one cross-functional, collaborative operating unit to employ the full breadth of our talent, technologies, products, services, and solutions to address the needs of customers and patients across the globe. Cardiac Rhythm and Heart Failure offers devices and therapies to treat abnormal heart rhythms, as well as cardiac diagnostic and monitoring solutions.
We are looking for a Human Factors Engineer that is passionate about user-centered design and able to design and develop next-generation products by integrating the Voice of the Customer into our future pipeline of cardiac products and therapies. You’ll work in our multi-disciplinary team to understand product requirements, identify user needs through research, communicate a persuasive vision, create with cross-functional team members, and deliver a world class design solution.
This position is remote within the Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) operating unit. This role may require less than 20% travel to enhance collaboration and ensure successful completion of projects.

This includes, but is not limited to the following: Applies human performance principles, methodologies, and technologies to the design of human-machine systems and products in the healthcare space. Develops and implements research methodologies and statistical analysis plans to test and evaluate developmental prototypes used in all phases of products development and processes. Designs and executes tests to simulate product use for the purposes of concept selection/refinement, requirements development, use-related risk identification and formal usability validation with intended users. Interfaces with design engineers to establish system design, operating, and training requirements and to ensure optimized human-machine interfaces. Identifies and analyzes technological problems or risks, performs theoretical human factors investigations, and develops and implements research and analysis plans. Product lifecycle support including customer needs identification, user profiles, task analysis, user interface design, usability testing, hazard analysis, design validation, and post-launch outcomes analysis Leading Human Factors and User Experience activities and small teams to optimize the customer’s experience using our cardiac and vascular products. Specialized Knowledge or Skills Required: Experience designing and evaluating software and hardware products using principles of Human Factors and Ergonomics Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and other Human Factors experts. Qualifications MUST HAVE - MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS ROLE, PLEASE BE SURE THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS ARE EVIDENT ON YOUR RESUME Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, or a technical discipline Minimum of 4 years of technical work experience in Engineering, Science, or advanced degree in Engineering, Science with 2years of technical experience. Nice to Have Knowledge of the application various human factors/usability engineering principles and tools in the design, development, and evaluation of hardware and software products brought to market. Ability to integrate creative skills with innovative problem-solving techniques to develop design concepts. Experience creating Interactive Graphical prototypes (wireframe) using Visio, Axure and/or Photoshop. Experience designing and validating Software Human Computer Interfaces for a variety of screen sizes. Experience designing and validating Hardware User Interface to include physical ergonomics and anthropometry. Experience conducting user research or observational research and usability studies. Strong oral and written technical communication skills. Strong ability to work with and lead multidisciplinary teams that may include other HF experts. Ability to quickly understand and become proficient in domain knowledge. Embraces change and ability to multi-task continuously. Ability to work independently with limited guidance and develop comprehensive plans and solutions to complex issues. Strong negotiation, conflict management, and influence management skills. Have a working knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Previous work experience in the medical industry. Knowledge of product development processes based on IEC 62366. Experience integrating human factors engineering into a product development process. Nice to Have: Demonstrated experience designing consumer-level mobile and web applications. A strong portfolio with relevant examples of finished work, wireframes, prototypes, specification documents and process flows. The portfolio must contain recent work examples from your professional experience. Experience using product design tools such as Sketch and prototyping tools such as Axure and InVision (or equivalent). Experience in user research methodologies and ability to conduct research or partner with vendor. Working knowledge of XML / XAML / CSS / JavaScript. Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$120,000.00 - $180,000.00 This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP). The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others). The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance , Health Savings Account , Healthcare Flexible Spending Account , Life insurance, Long-term disability leave , Dependent daycare spending account , Tuition assistance/reimbursement , and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
