Senior Embedded Systems Engineer

New Yesterday

At Relativity Space, we have ambitious goals: building the next great commercial launch company with Terran R and leading the way in additive manufacturing innovation. These initiatives are part of our long-term vision to establish humanity's industrial presence on Mars, paving the way for interplanetary life and expanding human possibilities. Our journey starts right here on Earth, where we design, build, and fly rockets to deliver payloads to orbit. Terran R is our innovative medium-to-heavy lift reusable rocket that meets increasing launch capacity demands through an efficient design and development process that minimizes costs. Our cutting-edge research in 3D printing is redefining large-scale additive manufacturing. Your adventure with us is more than just a job; it's a chance to shape the future of aerospace technology, additive manufacturing, and the human experience alongside a passionate community. Join us on this extraordinary path to turn our vision into reality. About the Team: The Vehicle Software team oversees software development for all avionics systems on the rocket. This role covers the entire software spectrum, from operating system images to application runtime and software configuration deployment. Additionally, we create the test environments necessary to validate our software, such as Hardware in the Loop (HITL) and Hardware on the Test Loop (HOOTL) testing setups. Our team also plays a vital role in supporting the manufacturing and testing efforts of the rocket, from avionics box testing through engine tests and culminating in stacked vehicle testing and launch. About the Role: Compose clear documentation including Concept of Operations, Interface Control Documents, and Software Design Documents. Collaborate closely with internal software and hardware certification teams, as well as external regulators and IV&V contractors, to ensure timely delivery of flight safety software and test artifacts for review. Take full ownership of ensuring that Relativity's AFSS achieves certification ahead of its first flight. Develop safety-critical software for AFSS, including bootloaders, command and telemetry services, device drivers, and software state machines, managing any flight termination events as they arise. Integrate best practices, tools, and insights from both safety and non-safety critical embedded software teams, enabling both groups to support vehicle software projects throughout the Terran R development lifecycle. About You: Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field with 3+ years of relevant software development experience. Proficient in C/C++ programming languages. Experience with software development cycles including source control, bug tracking, and design documentation. Experience in capturing, breaking down, and deriving formal software requirements from system-level requirements. Proven ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams. Nice to haves but not required: Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 5+ years of software development experience. Experience with verification and validation processes of safety-critical software. Previous experience working on launch vehicle systems. Familiarity with software safety standards such as RCC-319, DO-178, ISO 26262 or exposure to MISRA C/C++. Experience with Embedded Linux, VxWorks, FreeRTOS, and device driver development for embedded operating systems. At Relativity Space, we prioritize transparency and fairness in our compensation practices. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.
