RINA is currently recruiting for a Senior Electrical System Engineer - Distribution to join its offices in Chicago & Lisle, IL, Columbus, OH or Houston, TX within the Energy Engineering Project Management Division.
Compensation Data
Location: Preferred within commutable distance to our Chicago, IL, Lisle, IL, Columbus, OH or Houston, TX offices.
Salary Range: 130-155K Annually
Mission
The Senior Electric System Engineer is a subject matter expert (SME) in Distribution and a who is responsible for managing, leading, executing a variety of grid modernization, engineering, analysis, planning, design activities within the electric utility sector, and business growth. As a project lead and SME, the Senior Electric System Engineer will also oversee the technical work of one or more staff engineers or other team members, and ensure quality assurance is performed on their work product, deliverables, or outcomes.
Key Accountabilities
Lead electric utility activities such as distribution engineering planning, design, and operating activities including projects that involve preparation of power system analysis, load flow, and related studies, etc. associated with proposed or planned deployments of:
Distribution Automation (DA),
Volt-VAR Optimization (VVO),
Distributed Energy Resources (DER), and
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
Lead electric utility grid modernization initiatives involving Distribution Automation (DA), Volt-VAR Optimization (VVO), Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Distribution Energy Resources (DER), Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), or related technologies.
Manage project scope, schedule, budget, risks, deliverables or outcomes, and client expectation.
Assist and participate in business development and client account management activities including establishing, maintaining, and growing client relationships, identifying future sales opportunities, participation in proposal writing and development, and attending and leading on-site or remote client visits or meetings, as necessary.

Qualifications
B.S. in Electrical Engineering with concentration in power systems from an ABET accredited institution required.
5+ years of experience in power system modeling, analysis, and project management.
Professional Engineering (PE) license is preferred.
Proficient computer and analytical skills involving power systems analysis software (e.g., CYMEDIST) and all major Microsoft Office 365 applications and tools.
Previous work experience commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of this position description at an electric utility or as a consultant for electric utility clients.
Comfortable working in highly matrixed and dynamic consulting and electric utility organizational environments.
Familiarity with electric utility distribution regulatory requirements desired.
Knowledge of NESC requirements desired.
Familiarity with project management software tools, methodologies, best practices, and project life cycle including startup, planning, execution, control and monitoring, and closeout.
Possess technical, professional engineering, communication (written and verbal) skills, and interpersonal skills commensurate with the years of experience required to lead consulting staff engineers, team members, and collaborate effectively with electric utility client staff.
