Summary/Objective: The Senior Electrical and Controls Engineer is a technical leader responsible for driving the design, development, and implementation of electrical and control systems across Compu Dynamics Modular's data center and commercial modular products. This role provides expertise from early-stage concepting through manufacturing, installation, and site commissioning. The Senior Electrical and Controls Engineer is a key contributor to product innovation and standardization and serves as a mentor to junior engineers, modular designers, and project managers .
This individual is recognized as a subject matter expert within the company and plays a critical role in maintaining compliance with all codes, improving processes, and delivering cutting-edge modular infrastructure solutions.
Essential Functions: 1. Electrical Design & Engineering Leadership Lead the electrical and controls system design process for modular product development, including commercial and data center applications. Develop and review one-line diagrams, electrical schematics, cable schedules, load lists, and detailed designs using AutoCAD Calculate electrical loads, select equipment, and perform code analysis to ensure design compliance. Generate complete electrical Bills of Material Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure designs meet production best practices and are constructible. Develop PLC and HMI based environmental monitoring systems from a hardware and software perspective Select monitoring systems and instruments as required, including biometric access, alarming systems, fire detection systems, leak detection, temperature, pressure, and humidity sensors 2. Project & Product Development Support Guide electrical scope development during bids and conceptual design phases; assist in cost estimation and proposal generation. Review and approve submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings; provide technical documentation and responses to client or inspector inquiries. Support field activities including site surveys, system troubleshooting, and commissioning support. Generate required installation and maintenance documentation 3. Cross-functional Collaboration & Vendor Coordination Interface with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders to resolve design issues and clarify technical requirements. Coordinate vendor selections based on technical and performance requirements; manage relationships with manufacturer representatives. Review external control schematics and ensure alignment with modular system needs. 4. Compliance & Continuous Improvement Lead efforts to ensure compliance with NEC, local codes, safety regulations, and internal documentation standards. Develop and maintain internal electrical design standards, tools, and templates. Research and implement industry best practices for modular system design and integration. 5. Mentorship & Technical Leadership Provide training and guidance to junior engineers and modular design staff. Conduct peer reviews and technical audits across project teams. Contribute to long-term engineering strategy and process improvement initiatives.
Competencies: Deep knowledge of electrical power systems, controls, and modular design. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit and Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with controller software (e.g., PLC and HMI based systems) Fundamental understanding of industrial networking protocols and BMS interface Excellent communication and technical writing skills. Strong analytical and creative problem-solving abilities. Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple concurrent projects. Supervisory Responsibility: This role may mentor and oversee work performed by junior engineers or modular designers but does not have formal direct reports. Work Environment: Work is primarily performed in an office or collaborative environment with occasional site visits. Field work may include exposure to active construction, elevated temperatures, and energized equipment.
Physical Demands: Must be able to conduct site walks, climb ladders, and lift up to 25 pounds occasionally. Must be comfortable working in manufacturing and job site environments when necessary. Position Type: Full-time, non-exempt. Work hours follow the service department schedule and may include occasional overtime. Travel: Up to 15% travel may be required for site walks, commissioning support, or vendor meetings. Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or similar field. 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering with an emphasis on commercial, industrial, or mission-critical projects. Expert-level understanding of power distribution, control systems, and electrical code compliance. Preferred Education and Experience: Professional Engineering (PE) license strongly preferred. Certifications such as LEED, CEM, or CPD are a plus. Modular construction or data center infrastructure design experience.
