SDOT's Capital Projects Division has a great opportunity for a detail-oriented and collaborative Senior Civil Engineering Project Manager (Senior Civil Engineer) to work as part of the Capital Projects' Project Management team. This position will work with our team of dedicated transportation engineering and project delivery professionals to ensure that project elements are implemented and delivered successfully. In this role, you will manage some of SDOT's more complex projects directly and support other project managers in delivering a variety of transportation capital projects, including paving, transit, sidewalk, multimodal, bridge, and structural projects.
Job Responsibilities
- Serves as Project Manager (PM) for the most complex and controversial transportation capital projects, including transit projects, arterial asphalt and concrete projects, bike/pedestrian facility projects, and other medium to large transportation capital projects
- Manages project scope, schedule, and budget from design through construction.
- Provides monthly project status updates for reporting to management, department head, or elected officials; identifies, tracks, and manages project risks; prepares project change forms to document changes in project scope, schedule, and budget
- Maintains Clarity PPM database to document project budgets, spending, risk elements, and project schedules.
- Coordinates with other SDOT divisions, City agencies, and external stakeholders to proactively solve project issues.
- Prepares and helps execute inter-departmental and inter-agency agreements leading to project delivery.
- Assists with the preparation of consultant contracts.
- Collaborates with project managers to prepare reports for senior management.
- Supports departmental goals in promoting diversity and social justice.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology.
Experience:
- Five (5) years of professional experience with civil engineering.
License:
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Washington.
OR: An equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the position duties.
Though not requirements, strong candidates will have some of the following experience or are able to describe comparable experience:
- Knowledge of project management principles for transportation capital projects.
- Experience with grant applications and permit applications for capital projects
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word, Project, and Excel with experience using project management software.
- Effective written communication and oral communication skills, attention to detail.
- Strong organizational, time management, and customer service skills.
- Ability to effectively work in a multi-cultural workplace with a diverse customer base.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities.
- Ability to build relationships with stakeholders and team members.
Other Requirements:
Work Environment / Physical Demands:
- Work is typically performed in a hybrid work environment in which a minimum of 3 days of the work is completed in a City office, and 2 days of the work is completed remotely in a regular 40-hour work week.

The City's full salary range for this position is $72.38 - $84.28 hourly.
