Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Security Engineer with strong expertise in commissioning and programming access control and IP camera systems in commercial settings, particularly for K-12 schools and corporate office environments. The ideal candidate will have in-depth experience with Genetec, Avigilon, Verkada, and Lenel systems and be capable of performing advanced troubleshooting, system configuration, and network-based diagnostics. This is a field-based role requiring coordination with project management and installation teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Commission, program, and troubleshoot access control systems and IP-based video surveillance systems (Genetec, Avigilon, Verkada, Lenel).
Configure and integrate video management software (VMS) and access control software platforms.
Perform IP addressing, system configuration, and network-level diagnostics for camera and access control devices.
Collaborate with project management and installation teams to ensure accurate system setup and turnover.
Read and interpret blueprints and technical schematics for installation and configuration.
Assist in the setup and testing of systems, including verifying door hardware functionality and camera angles/recording.
Maintain accurate project documentation and device records.
Train end-users on system operations and user-level programming when needed.
Support the integration of systems with third-party APIs or software platforms (preferred for advanced candidates).
Required Experience & Skills:
3 years of experience in security system commissioning and programming in commercial environments.
Proficient in Genetec, Avigilon, Verkada, and Lenel systems (emphasis on Genetec and Avigilon preferred).
Strong understanding of access control hardware (panels, maglocks, strikes, readers) and IP cameras.
Working knowledge of IP networking, including IP addressing, subnetting, and switch/router configuration.
Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software-related security system issues.
Familiar with cable routing, device placement, and structured cabling standards (CAT 5/6, 22/4, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications:
Certifications in Genetec, Avigilon, or other security platforms.
Experience with scripting or API integration (Python, PowerShell, SDKs) is a plus.
OSHA 10 or 30 certification.
Lift certification (scissor/boom).
Proficient in Microsoft Office tools for documentation and communication.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and move up to 75 lbs, work on ladders or lifts, and remain on your feet throughout the workday.
Must provide personal hand tools and proper PPE (steel/composite toe boots required).
