The Reliability Engineer/Specialist of Situation Awareness is responsible for providing support to SERC's Situation Awareness (SA) program. The position coordinates with NERC's Bulk Power System Situation Awareness and Events Analysis (EA) teams, SERC Registered Entities and other organizations to identify, analyze and communicate disturbances that impact reliable bulk power system operations. In addition, the position leads and supports the organization's strategic initiatives, the SERC Incident Response Plan, the SERC Events Analysis program, and SA and EA working group initiatives.
This position may be eligible for senior consideration based upon experience.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead initiatives that support SERC SA analysis, reporting, and outreach program goals.
- Monitor and develop status reports on the reliability of the bulk power system within the SERC footprint and communicate the status of reliability to various stakeholders.
- Coordinate with Registered Entities within the SERC Region to collect and consolidate information that support analysis for bulk power system events in the Region.
- Coordinate closely with SERC's Security Team, Reliability Coordinators, NERC and Regional Bulk Power Situation Awareness teams, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Electricity Information Sharing and Analysis Center (E-ISAC), and other government agencies.
- Maintain and lead the SERC Bulk Power System Incident Response Plan to communicate the level of risk to the bulk electric system to the industry during emergency conditions.
- Participate in emergency tabletop exercises (e.g. restoration drills, Grid Exercise) to support training and the continuous improvement of SERC's Incident Response Plan.
- Develop and implement processes, procedures and metrics that support the SA program, as well as provide timely updates to management related to operational situations and reportable events.
- Review and manage all SA tools used for the timely exchange of situational information and promote new tools that enhance situation awareness.
- Provide support, outreach and briefings to the SERC board, operations committees, and state outreach for the purpose of awareness in support of achieving a higher degree of bulk power system reliability within the Region.
- Serve as back up to SERC's Events Analysis representative.
- Ability to work a rotational weekends schedule during system events and travel up to 20% of the time.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 7-8 years' experience in Bulk Electric System Operations and Planning field.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field required or equivalent combination of education and/or operational experience.
- NERC System Operator Certification preferred.
- Possess strong analytical capability to collect and analyze data and to draw sound conclusions from the results
- Excellent report writing skills and the ability to make concise summaries of technical issues
- Effective communication skills (face-to-face, telephone, written and email, and presentation skills)
- Excellent organizational, time management and project management skills
- Computer skills, proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Power Point
- Self-starter with integrity, leadership, and vision

SALARY/BENEFITS:
The salary range for this position is DOE. We offer a generous PTO package; paid holidays; medical, dental, vision, life, short-term and long-term disability insurance, and a 401(k) plan with an organization contribution of up to 14%.
