Job Description
A general contractor providing mechanical, rigging, and electrical construction services to the industrial market-including planning, consulting, and installation nationwide-is seeking a Project Superintendent / Field Engineer. The company's construction experience includes a broad range of industrial projects, including automotive manufacturing, textile, plant relocation, equipment installation, direct and indirect process utility installation, and ground-up manufacturing plant construction. The organization is also expanding into new battery technology and chemical plant projects to support the growing electric vehicle industry.
The Project Superintendent / Field Engineer will assist in managing and delegating designated field activities for assigned projects. This role involves leading the project team to ensure timely, safe, and budget-conscious project execution in alignment with policies and procedures. Coordination with all stakeholders-including clients, suppliers, subcontractors, licensors, and other involved parties-is essential for successful project completion.
Essential Functions
Preconstruction Services
- Participate in reviewing drawings and specifications.
- Estimate the cost and manhours required to complete project tasks on budget and on schedule.
- Engage in preconstruction planning for budget and schedule management.
- Understand project specifications and general contract conditions; ensure all material and subcontract work is scheduled and aligns with contract documents and quality standards.
- Verify that all materials are tested as specified and record all results accurately.
- Conduct site visits and inspections of subcontractors and vendors to uphold quality expectations.
- Coordinate and monitor subcontractor and stakeholder progress within designated areas of responsibility.
- Communicate project expectations and directions clearly regarding schedules, construction methods, safety, permits, policies, and quality standards.
- Attend daily and weekly project meetings to align on work to be completed.
- Manage project closeout to finalize financials, demobilize resources, and hand off the project to the client.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with customers, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and end users that reflect professional values and exceed expectations.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil or Mechanical) and/or Construction Management preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial or construction environments.
- Familiarity with construction contract language and project documentation.
- Strong multitasking, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to accurately estimate project labor, materials, and equipment costs preferred.
- Effective decision-making and problem-solving under tight deadlines.
- Ability to manage people, tools, and equipment across multiple concurrent activities.
- Working knowledge of OSHA safety standards and compliance.
- Strong commitment to quality assurance and continuous improvement using feedback and analytics.
- Proficiency with computers and communication tools (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, email, internet).
- Ability to produce or review daily logs, monthly reports, and progress documentation as needed.
- On construction sites, outside of office or trailers, personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required by safety protocols and weather conditions.
- Must be available to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays as needed to meet project deadlines.
- Travel to various job site locations may be required depending on project assignments.
