Project Engineer / Assistant Cost Consultant

Note: This position requires the employee to work on-site 3 - 5 days per week. Work is primarily conducted on an active construction site with heavy equipment and machinery.

We are currently seeking a talented full-time Project Engineer / Assistant Cost Consultant for Life Science, Technology and Industrial Manufacturing projects. The candidate will be responsible for supporting an area or team using basic/established technical capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Apply value management techniques to support effective project planning from inception.
  • Assist with cost estimation, planning, control, and financial reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support procurement processes and contract preparation, including warranties, bonds, and licenses.
  • Evaluate contractor work progress, assess variations, and facilitate valuation agreements under contract terms.
  • Identify and track cost implications from design changes, contract awards, construction, and client-directed charges.
  • Participate in assessing contractor and subcontractor claims for delays and additional costs.
  • Foster stakeholder relationships and provide informal guidance to junior team members, contributing to strategic team delivery.

Qualifications

  • Degree in quantity surveying/cost management (or equivalent) or working towards relevant qualification.
  • Able to assist in cost planning, estimating, valuations, and reporting tasks across project stages.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills for contract and cost-related decisions.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, fostering collaborative relationships.
  • Show digital proficiency and familiarity with industry-standard tools and practices.
  • Possess foundational knowledge of value engineering, lifecycle costing, and construction contract frameworks.
  • Exhibit personal effectiveness through inclusive teamwork, self-awareness, and continuous learning.
  • Display awareness of current industry priorities such as Sustainability, Social Value, and Carbon Reduction.
