Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Software Engineer to join our team of skilled and diverse experts. This role, based at Schriever Space Force Base in Colorado Springs, CO, is crucial in supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders across strategic, regional, and operational levels.

Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a crucial component of the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational platform that allows the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and tactical levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, monitor battle progress, and actively manage networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives.
C2BMC provides a layered missile defense capability that delivers an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It serves as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations both worldwide and locally to improve overall performance. Furthermore, C2BMC is an essential part of all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the missile defense system's current and future capabilities.
Critical to the mission is the Global Track Processing (GTP) team, which aims to provide accurate global situational awareness through raw sensor data to the warfighter. GTP is seeking a software engineer who will excel in an environment that requires maintaining and developing Java-based applications that rely heavily on efficient algorithm development and linear algebra. Ideal applicants are enthusiastic about solving complex problems through collaboration and teamwork. This software engineer eagerly seizes the opportunity to lead their team to the finish line and occasionally welcomes being assisted. Collaboration requires excellent written and verbal communication skills; well-organized documentation in the form of clearly written software, technical memorandums, white papers, software models, and technical presentations are part of daily responsibilities.
Essential Functions:
The selected Software Engineer will understand the software development life cycle, object-oriented software development, and automated testing
Will analyze high-level needs and define a structured and logical approach to refine the capability into an integrated set of requirements that lead to a fielded product would be a valuable addition
Will communicate effectively, clearly present technical approaches and findings, and have experience in writing and implementing project reports, plans, and status updates
Will provide professional and practical software engineering experience
Will write and present technical documentation to diverse audiences, including team members and non-technical customers
Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 3 years of related experience, or 1 years of related experience with a PhD. Or 9 years of related experience in lieu of a degree may be considered.
Applicants must possess a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start
Ability and willingness to travel 10% to support business needs.
Extensive Java development experience writing testable operational code and unit tests that exercise that code
Extensive experience in a Linux environment, preferably with:
Red Hat
CentOS
Oracle Linux
Proficient in utilizing GIT within a Linux environment
Proficient in using Jira and Confluence for project management and team collaboration
Experience in software modeling with UML
Required Theoretical Experience:
Solid understanding of Object-Oriented paradigms, including principles and concepts
Knowledge of software design patterns, including their applications and benefits in software development

Primary Level Salary Range: $100,300.00 - $150,500.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
