T&M Associates is seeking a skilled and experienced Principal Engineer to join our Civil Department in our Transportation Market at our Middletown, NJ office. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, providing flexibility for remote work combined with in-office collaboration.

As a Principal Engineer, you will focus on technical design and the development of plans for roadway, highway, and bridge construction projects across New Jersey. You will also provide oversight for junior engineers. You'll work closely with NJDOT, NJ Counties and other State/Regional clients, collaborating with project managers, the Civil Department Manager, and clients to coordinate the design aspects of roadway projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage design tasks for roadway, highway, and bridge projects.
  • Provide technical leadership in horizontal geometry, vertical profiles, grading, cross sections, ADA compliance, and utility relocation coordination.
  • Contribute to specification development and construction cost estimating.
  • Oversee junior engineers and collaborate on project deliverables.
  • Assist in project management activities, including budgeting and client coordination.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required.
  • Must have Professional Engineer (PE) license; or will acquire within one year.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience, including expertise in roadway design, highway engineering, and bridge construction.
  • Experience with design task budgets is a plus.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation is essential; experience with OpenRoads is a plus.
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Detail-oriented with solid knowledge of design principles and the ability to produce accurate design calculations.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.

T&M Associates is committed to pay transparency and equitable compensation practices in compliance with applicable laws, including the New Jersey Equal Pay Act. T&M estimates that the salary range for this position will fall between $104,500 - $135,000. The actual salary offered may vary within this range, depending on a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, educational qualifications, specific skills and knowledge, as well as internal pay equity and geographic location.
