This role is in-office 2-3 days per week with up to 25% travel per month to various customer locations across the US. The Protection, Controls & Automation (PCA) group of Digital Power is Schneider Electric North America's engineering entity, specializing in solutions for control and protection of electrical substations, data centers, oil & gas, and distribution networks. Within this group, the Energy Automation team seeks a Principal Application Engineer with expertise in Power systems, Protection schemes, Protection relays configuration, testing, and troubleshooting. Responsibilities include leading complex power system projects, proposing innovative features, training team members, and supporting them as needed. Core responsibilities include: SAFETY FIRST approach – Promote Schneider Electric Safety-First policies, including STOP work authority, to all stakeholders. Design, Configuration, Testing of Protection, Control, and Automation projects – Lead development based on customer specifications, review documentation, engage in testing and validation, and execute projects during FAT and SAT. Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies, ensuring adherence to quality processes. Technical Leadership – Lead project design discussions with customers and cross-functional teams on complex solutions. Collaboration – Work with Sales and Project Management during project handover, clarify scope, and promote Schneider Electric solutions. Innovation – Develop PCA projects with technical standards, propose new ideas to improve efficiency. Technical escalation management – Resolve technical issues and communicate effectively with stakeholders. Profile: Engineering or Master’s degree in Electrical or Power Systems Minimum 10+ years in Protection, Control, and Automation projects Expertise in Power systems, Protection relays, schemes, and relay-based ATO schemes Outgoing, strategic, and creative thinker Excellent interpersonal and mentoring skills Well-organized and proactive Willing to travel 25% domestically Knowledge of Schneider Electric’s Medium and Low voltage systems Experience with protection relay testing and schemes (Feeder, Transformer, Bus differential, Arc flash, Motor protection) Ability to program and troubleshoot protection schemes Knowledge of communication protocols (Modbus, DNP, IEC61850) Experience with IEC61850 protection schemes Mentoring and training skills Join us!
