Our client is currently seeking a Plant Engineer for their facility in Perth Amboy, NJ. This role supports both process optimization and capital project execution within a manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, analytical, and committed to driving improvements in safety, efficiency, and environmental performance. Ideally they need someone who has experience dealing with pumps and reactors used in the manufacture of chemicals.

This job will have the following responsibilities:

Execute standard engineering tasks, including equipment or product design, material testing, and process studies.
Apply basic engineering principles and root cause analysis to troubleshoot operational issues (e.g., diagnosing pump failures and proposing solutions).
Manage small-scale capital projects aimed at improving safety, productivity, or equipment reliability.

Process Engineering (Approx. 60% Plant / 40% Office)
1. Analyze and improve manufacturing processes to meet production, safety, and environmental objectives.
2. Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to reduce costs (utilities, labor, raw materials, equipment) and increase operational efficiency.
3. Enhance safety and environmental performance through equipment upgrades and process improvements.
4. Prepare for and participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHA/HAZOP) and implement resulting recommendations.
5. Maintain and update Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), ensuring they reflect current plant conditions and changes from MOCs and HAZOPs.
Project Engineering
1. Lead the development and implementation of process-related capital projects.
2. Monitor and report on project budgets, timelines, and performance metrics.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical engineering or similar highly preferred
Strong technical problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt procedures to resolve issues.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Experience with AutoCAD is a plus.
Familiarity with SAP and P&IDs is advantageous.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
Prior in-plant experience in a chemical process environment is highly desirable.
