In our Albuquerque, NM office we are looking for an opto-electrical engineer to assist in the design, development, and testing of laser-based optical systems and photonic devices. This role involves developing control software, automating laser characterization procedures, and implementing precision optical-electrical measurement systems as well as perform a variety of software development tasks for electro-mechanical-optical experiments for an applied R&D contract. You will get to work alongside a multi-disciplinary team, in collaboration with Government researchers doing fun experiments primarily in a laboratory.
- Perform requirements definition for testbeds and test equipment for a variety of opto-electrical experiments, based on provided test objectives and develop software control solutions.
- Assist in the design, buildup, and calibration custom testbeds and test equipment for optical tracking including design, build test instrument control and data acquisition hardware.
- Modify and develop data acquisition tools using software such as LabVIEW.
- Modify and develop data reduction and analysis tools using software such as MATLAB.
- Requires deep understanding of and ability to apply principles, theories, and concepts of technical domain and has broad understanding of other related specialty areas.
- Responsible for finding hardware and software solutions to various stakeholders for military applications.
- The ideal candidate will work independently as well as with a team, learn new skills quickly, demonstrate excellent communication and problem-solving skills, be organized, detail-oriented, careful, flexible, and self-motivated with a can-do attitude.
Basic Qualifications
- BS degree or equivalent experience and less than 2 years prior relevant experience.
- Active DoD Secret clearance,
- Programming skills in LabVIEW, Python, and/or MATLAB
- Experience with VHDL and FPGA development for precision timing applications
- Proficiency with Linux development environments
- Hands-on experience with Arduino and embedded control systems
- Knowledge of laser physics, optics, and photonics principles
- Experience with electrical circuit design and PCB layout
- Familiarity with laser safety standards and regulations
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent technical documentation abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or Physics
- 2+ years of experience with laser systems or photonics
- Experience with laser diode drivers, TEC controllers, and photodiode amplifiers
- Knowledge of fiber optics, beam shaping, and optical isolation techniques
- Familiarity with RF/microwave electronics for laser modulation

Pay Range: Pay Range $55,250.00 - $99,875.00
