PEMEX Deer Park is a highly complex refinery located 18 miles east of Houston in Deer Park, TX, and is a part of the PEMEX group which is a fully integrated oil company in the Americas, working across the entire value chain: exploration, production, industrial processing/refining, logistics and marketing. Job Purpose

The Operations Support Engineer (OSE) is accountable for technical support and assurance to one or more Production Units within the PEMEX Deer Park Refinery. This position is seen as a technical development role with responsibility for monitoring process units to operate in a safe, reliable, and efficient manner. The role will work in multi-disciplinary teams and will be required to manage conflicting priorities effectively through multiple Production Areas and teams. The OSE assignment offers a chance to cultivate expertise in manufacturing process technology, technical safety, and fundamental process engineering skills.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

  • Provide proactive technical monitoring and support to Production Units to ensure units operate safely and reliably while generating profit for the business.
  • Work closely with other Operations Support Engineers (OSEs) to provide technical support to daily operations, small projects, and margin initiatives.
  • Support work scope development and field execution for process equipment during turnarounds.
  • Provide guidance to Operations in proposing appropriate operating targets for the process units and systems to meet established feed and product specifications.
  • Provide technical support and execute process changes via the Management of Change (MOC) process to ensure any hazards associated with design changes to process units are adequately mitigated.
  • Identify, communicate, and escalate issues to the appropriate technical and operations personnel. Assist in evaluation of complex technical or operational problems.
  • Perform engineering analyses (e.g. process modelling, catalyst evaluation, relief design calculations, etc.) as needed.
  • Provide technical support for special operation activities (e.g., test runs, decontamination, startups, shutdowns).
  • Seek to understand the root cause of process issues and mitigate findings with robust solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Provide process engineering guidance in PHAs and incident investigations within assigned areas.
  • Provide input and support to long-term strategy planning for process units and refinery systems.
  • Provide support to multidiscipline teams addressing cross-organizational issues and opportunities.

Job Knowledge, Skills & ExperienceSpecify the educational background, qualifications and experience that would typically be required to fully and effectively perform this job.

Physical requirements:

· Walking distance of up to a mile.

· Climbing portable and vessel ladders to elevations over 100 feet.

· 15-25% of work is performed in an outside petrochemical manufacturing environment.

· Occasionally extended work hours during planned and unplanned events.

Experience requirements:

· Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis.

· Bachelor of Science degree required (preferred discipline Chemical Engineering).

· 1-5 years of process engineering experience working in oil and gas or petrochemical industry.

· An understanding of refinery processes and operations preferred.

· Familiarity with process simulation software is preferred (e.g. Petro-SIM, ProMax, HYSYS).

· Ability to effectively manage competing priorities.

· Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
