The Role

Jupiter Power is looking to grow its engineering team with the addition of an Operations Engineer. The Operations Engineer will report to the Vice President of Operations and Maintenance and be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day administration, coordination, and management of the responsibilities set forth below.



This role will be based out of our Austin or Houston, Texas offices and is subject to our Companys return-to-office policy which currently requires a minimum of three days a week in the office.



Responsibilities

  • Maintain as-built and engineering design of current operating projects, high voltage substations, BESS yards, and major equipment vendor drawings.
  • Lead root cause analyses and corrective action for electrical faults and other events affecting site operations.
  • Collaborate with OEM subject matter experts and Jupiter internal engineering to identify improvements in current and future site design
  • Ensure operating projects comply with industry and regulatory standards including annual NERC compliance testing and documentation.
  • Act as technical liaison to individuals within and outside the organization with responsibility to act independently regarding technical matters pertaining to individual's field
  • Travel to sites for onsite troubleshooting support
  • Assist with site performance testing and manage changes and upgrades to power plant control and energy management systems
  • Provides automation engineering support for failure mitigation, process improvement, data analytics and improving performance targets
  • Support SCADA systems team for operational and security performance.
  • Drive process discipline through development of procedures and/or standardizing use of work management systems and reporting tools (Microsoft Dynamics, PowerBI).

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Personally support field operations and maintenance to gain firsthand understanding of key drivers requiring improvement.
  • Knowledge and/or hands on experience in utility scale energy storage field troubleshooting and repair is desirable.
  • The position is highly interdependent and will require interface with all areas of the department, spanning from site operations for data collection and analysis, SCADA support, to formal presentations to executive management.
  • Focus will be on top performance of all equipment associated with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS): Batteries, BMS, Inverters, HVAC, and site communications/controls.

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
  • 2-5 years of direct experience with high voltage substations, Wind/Solar/BESS power plants, or applicable fields
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
