MP&L Automation Implementation Engineer
New Yesterday
We are the movers of the world and the makers of the future. We get up every day, roll up our sleeves and build a better world -- together. At Ford, we're all a part of something bigger than ourselves. What will you make today?
As part of our Manufacturing team, you'll help build the world-class, state-of-the-art smart vehicles we're known for. In our plants around the world, we're constantly developing new technologies and processes to further increase our efficiency. You'll get the satisfaction of making great products people use and love.
In this position...
You will be a critical member of our automation team, responsible for the successful planning, execution, and optimization of Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) deployments within our facilities. This role requires a highly organized, technically proficient, and cross-functional individual capable of bridging the gap between AMR technology and operational reality. You will ensure the seamless integration of AMRs into existing workflows, validate system performance, and facilitate the transition of support to internal teams, maximizing the return on investment for our automation initiatives.
More specifically, you will be responsible for comprehensive site assessment and preparation, evaluating facility readiness, identifying potential challenges, and coordinating necessary site modifications with Facilities and Operations teams. A core responsibility involves leading the technical integration and configuration of AMR systems, which includes validating IT infrastructure, mechanical installations, and initial power-up of AMR hardware and charging stations. The role also entails process design and optimization, where the engineer will analyze current operations to design optimized material flow, define use cases, performance metrics, and develop robust exception handling procedures. Prior to launch, the engineer will develop and execute comprehensive test plans for AMR functionality, navigation, safety, and performance, conduct user acceptance testing (UAT) with operational teams, and lead the full commissioning process. Furthermore, the engineer will be crucial in training and documentation, developing and delivering training programs for operators, maintenance technicians, and safety teams, and creating detailed Standard Operating Procedures. Post-launch, responsibilities include providing initial support, monitoring system performance, facilitating a phased handover of support to the internal ITR team. Throughout all these phases, the AMR Launch Engineer will ensure all deployments adhere to internal safety/industry standards, relevant local agreements, actively participating in risk assessments and implementing mitigation strategies.
At Ford Motor Company, we believe freedom of movement drives human progress. With our incredible plans for the future of mobility, we have a wide variety of opportunities for you to accelerate your career and help us define tomorrow's transportation.
What you'll do...
Design and Implementation: Collaborate with stakeholders to design AMR/AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle) systems that meet specific operational needs and integrate seamlessly with existing infrastructure and systems.
Technical Integration: Oversee the technical implementation of AMR/AGV systems, including hardware installation, software configuration, network connectivity, and interfacing with other automation equipment.
T esting and Commissioning: Conduct rigorous testing and commissioning procedures to ensure the safety, reliability, and performance of AMR/AGV systems.
Resource Allocation: Plan and allocate internal and external resources for the deployment phase.
Scheduling & Logistics: Develop a detailed deployment schedule, coordinate the delivery and staging of AMR hardware, and manage the logistics of installation teams.
Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for system optimization and implement improvements to enhance efficiency, safety, and scalability.
Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including plant operations, IT, engineering, and vendors, to ensure successful project execution.
Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of system design, configuration, maintenance procedures, facility readiness, safety standard adherence, and timing to launch activities.
You'll have...
Bachelor's Degree
2+ years experience in the deployment, commissioning, or support of industrial automation systems
Even better, you may have...
Direct experience with Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) or Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs).
Proven experience in project-based work, managing technical aspects of system launches.
Strong understanding of robotics principles, navigation technologies (e.g., LiDAR, SLAM), and sensor integration.
Proficiency in network fundamentals (Wi-Fi, Ethernet, IP addressing).
